Food for thought - very interesting research question!

1) Light and composition / orgininality
2) Location
3) Type of vessel

Regards,
Oliver.

Help and Advice / Re: River Fal laid-up ships
« on: March 31, 2015, 11:02:37 AM »
Maybe later in the year some of the reefers might return?

Preparing for a trip last year to see the ships laid up there, I received great help from numerous kind people who are also active here on shipspotting.

Here ist last year's situation:

Scale Models / Re: MV "SUMMER BAY" MADE IN PAINT

Thanks, Carlos, for posting this unusual depiction of a beautiful ship. Her typical reefer profile comes out very well indeed (not least because she is a reefer...).

Luckily, Summer Bay, -Flower and -Meadow appear to have escaped the fate of their sister, Summer Wind.

Here is a link showing Summer Bay and -Flower during summer lay up in August 2014: http://www.shipspotting.com/gallery/photo.php?lid=2159101

Bonjour, Jean Claude,

try John Lingwood's excellent book "SD14 - The Full Story". On pp. 248f. there is an A3-size general arrangement drawing of South Dock yard no. 450, "1 Congreso del Partido".

It is good to see these modern classics operating again.

Here is a link to a photograph showing Summer Bay, -Flower and -Meadow during lay-up in the River Fal this summer.

Classic reefer SUMMER WIND arrived Alang anchorage 25/8 AM

Sadly, yesterday (2014 09 10), Summer Wind was beached at Alang. At least, she did it in style at a speed of 19 knots - worthy of a ship of her kind.

Now three sisters remain, the Summer Bay, -Flower and -Meadow, all of them currently laid up in the River Fal. Although they had been laid up there during the summer months for the last couple of years, it seems that their future is now more uncertain than before.

Shipping News and information / Ecuadorian Line
« on: June 26, 2014, 02:10:02 PM »
According to a number of sources, Ecuadorian Line, Bonita Europe's reefer line, has been stopped and cargo has instead been transported on MSC container vessels since May. All of Ecuadorian's reefers, Albemarle, Barrington, Charles, Duncan and Hood Island, are currently berthed at Antwerp.
Does anyone have information on a possible future use of the ships or whether they will be moved somewhere else for a longer lay-up?
Thanks and best wishes,
Oliver Sesemann, Germany.

During my years living and working in the UK I used to listen to the Forecast regularly. Even after my return to Germany I am still listening to it via the web sometimes. Have you read Charlie Connelly's excellent book, "Attention All Shipping"?

Shipping News and information / Alexander von Humboldt & A.v.H. II

Dear all,
I am confused - could anyone enlighten me, please ;)
Putting together cruise ship call lists for ports in northern Germany for the upcoming summer season, I have come across the problem that some ports obviously don't know which ships they will play host to this summer. The pictures published of the Alexander von Humboldt are showing the vessel which, to my knowledge, now is the Explorer II (IMO 9144196). Researching into this topic I have found a picture of a vessel looking like the former Crown Monarch (-94, Nautican -96, Walrus - 07, Jules Verne -today?), IMO 8709573, but sporting the name Alexander von Humboldt at her bow. http://www.shipspotting.com/modules/myalbum/photo.php?lid=607042
As far as I know this ship is currently at Bremerhaven's Lloyd Werft. Will the new Alexander von Humboldt be the original Crown Monarch?
Looking forward to your comments.
Best wishes,
Oliver Sesemann.
