Hello Dirk,

I think i know where you are coming from.

One suggestion i would have to simplify things is when you look at a photo and firstly you see photographer, then date captured, if IT could type posted by, between the two, then if the poster is not the photographer then you could insert unknown or name of photographer if known or the late with the name inserted.

I would not expect IT to do this for all photos currently on site, but consider it for a new beginning for the new year.

Hello Merv,

Thanks for your comment on this topic.

You are absolutely right, when our roads are grid locked and there is a canal that can take the strain, it seems crazy that cargo is shipped by road.

The case of the Arklows to Cargills, they come in spells throughout the year, sometimes as many as 6 one after the other then nothing for months, one shipment could take 150 trucks off the road.

Hi David,

Thanks for that recent information about the company.
I was glad it was Eastern Vanquish as i already have Eastern Virage.

I photographed her at 3 different locations in the pouring rain, will post tomorrow.

When i noticed ES on the funnel i thought it related to Esprit but noticed today that that is the name of the company who run the berth where she is discharging.
Still not exactly sure what her cargo is.

Hello Monkstone Light,

Thanks for your comment and good observation.

The Eastern vanquish has just anchored at Liverpool bar.

Fog permitting, she should board her pilot about 02-00 hrs.

Arkonia was fog bound for a few hours this morning.

Hi David,

You are certainly right, a full cargo of teachers whisky would be nice.

I have been told it is nothing more sinister than grain, you could still make whisky from that.

Hi all,

There is a new service about to commence in to Salford Quays, formerly Manchester docks.

The ships will be discharged in one of the old drydocks,

The first ship will be Eastern Vanquish, she is currently just South of Penzance doing 9 knots.

It will be quite a sight to see a ship in the old docks as Salford Quays is now full of offices, studios, apartments, shops etc.

Marine traffic over here in Thailand has become almost useless for tracking live ship movements for the past 2 months.
There are many ships in port that are not even shown on the map.
Quite often you have to wait until a ship is well underway before you get anything, and quite often you just get one live echo.
I have a number of photos on there.
It does have some good points but i mainly use it for live tracking so i dont have to sit down by the river all day.
Like many places around the world, when you spend a lot of time there, it becomes harder and harder to see new ships.
The ship shedule i get over here every day is a great help, combined with marine traffic when it does show the odd ship live.

Thanks Neil and Lappino for your comments.

The EURO STAR is sailing in the morning.
The TIARA 108 is currently anchored awaiting a berth.

Ijmuiden in Holland also seems to be quite busy with reefers.

There are currently at least 9 reefers in port at this moment, i say at least because Marine Traffic is very poor over here for the last 2 months.

They are,
EURO STAR
CHERRY STAR
LAKE NOVA
JOCHOH
SEA REEFER
SEA STAR V
HUA FU 207
SEA GLORY 2
HAI FENG 728, currently inward bound.

JOCHOH, her voyage originated from the port of Manta,Equador.
Yesterday the SEA GLORY 2 arrived from Lae.
I beleive most or all of them bring in fish from very exotic places, probably the most expensive fish on the market.

The daily barge traffic on the river is staggering, there must be at least 50 to 75 thousand tonnes, when you add this to the ship traffic there is a big daily tonnage.
The port went very quite during the middle of April which coincided with the Thai new year, the Songkran water festival.
Records are made to be broken, yesterday there were 50 movements on the ship schedule, 24 arrivals and 26 sailing and shifting, that did not include 2 geared bulkers sailing loaded.
It seems that the Corona virus is not having much affect on the port.
