Does anybody know the fate of Jack's Bay (ex mine sweeper HMCS Grandmere J258);
Grandmere was the escort vessel to the ferry Caribou when the latter was sunk by U-69 on October 13/1942 en route to Newfoundland, with the loss of 126 passengers and crew.
Vessel was later converted to a yacht and in 1951 was under British register out of Nassau, Bahamas. In 1959, now as Jack's Bay, she sailed between ports between Florida and Cuba.

Is there hope for the oldest passenger ferry in the world operating on Lake Tanganyika (built in 1913 as a German gunboat)?

Early on October 18, 2014, landing craft/barge Atlantic Harvester I capsized/sunk just north of Campbell River, BC. An Alaska State Ferry vessel picked up one crewmember; two
others are missing/presumed dead.

Earlier a Canadian Armed Forces helicopter from 442 Sqn. Comox, BC had airlifted the vessel's injured master.
CCGS Gordon Reid had also attempted to tow the freighter away from the Haida Gwaii coast; but all attached lines eventually snapped in the heavy seas.

Russian vessel Simushir, IMO 9179385 en route from Washington State to Russia lost power around 11 pm October 15 approx. 25 km off Tasu, Haida Gwaii/Queen Charlotte Islands, Canada. In high seas and heavy wind, vessel is drifting ashore.
An US-registered tug, which left Prince Rupert, BC is not expected to reach stricken vessel until the morning of October 17.

Site related news, functions and modules / Re: Deletions
« on: March 22, 2013, 01:56:21 PM »
The reason for some deletions are obvious; others certainly are not.
A number of times after again one or more of my pics were deleted
I even considered to delete all my 1600 or so pics posted on Shipspotting.
I certainly would like to be given a reason when any of pics are being
deleted.
Living on the west coast of Canada, a lot of my pics show shipping in
inclement weather: fog, drizzle, rain etc. Unfortunately, the admin people
who deleted many of my "inclement weather" pics, which were clear, not
blurred and totally in focus, did not appreciate the weather conditions these
vessels were sailing in.

Pity....
