Why is it impossible to get specific ship photo search results for the requested name?

For example, if I select/search for Andrey and Aleksandra Melnichenko's 300 million super
yacht "A" (even if I leave a space behind the vessel's name A,
I get as an answer: 167,087 photos found!

Why can't I just get the few posted photos of the super yacht by the name A?

Having never known my grandfather and one of my uncles killed as innocent hostages in cold blood by the Nazi occupiers of the Netherlands, I fully agree with Pieter Melissen.

This vessel should never have been named after a former member of the Waffen SS.

Only after the international transportation union ITF protested and started a petition asking Shell not to hire this vessel, the owners decided to better change the name.

Cruise ship companies are well known for trying to cut corners to save some money.
Princess Cruises is infamous for missing/passing by ports of call. This saves them
lots of money; they can now sail at a lower speed to reach the next scheduled destination at
the scheduled time, thus saving fuel.
No pilot and/or tug assistance required saves more money. Passengers who prepaid port taxes
for this location, never get a refund.
On the few times I sailed with Princess, two ports were missed for no real urgent reasons.

The captain of Holland American Lines, in contrast, did his uttermost to dock his vessel in rough weather with no available tug assistance in Ushuaia, Argentina.

@ Federico,

These are all fellow human beings in search for a place to live in freedom and start a new life and trying to make a living an contributing to our society, usually taking those jobs that we don't want to do ourselves anyway.

If there are a few (say four out of a thousand) suspected bad apples in this group, then this is just a drop in the bucket, adding only four to how many thousands of Italian Mafia types. That should not be a reason to keep the other 996 from getting a second chance to a new future....

Shipping News and information / Re: Shipspotting or shipposting ?

Thanks Captain Ted for raising this topic.

"Shipspotting" it should remain, but Cornelia, Pieter and you made some valuable
arguments up for consideration.

But I especially like Adrian Ford's suggestion of doing away with the "number of views"
and replace it with a "Like" button instead.

There is a huge difference between "viewing" and actually "liking" a photograph,
regardless whether it was taken by the "photographer" who posts his own or an older
photograph taken by somebody else. [Don't get me going on copyright though!]

The main purpose of Shipspotting.com is or at least should be the sharing of photographs and information about shipping worldwide.

Many of my local shots don't get many hits the first time around/the day when posted, but
this doesn't bother me at all. Nobody has to "view" my pictures if they don't want to.

I have posted some 4,000 pics over the past number of years and built up some good contacts with other shipspotting enthusiasts who aided me in identifying some of my "mystery ships." To me this is way more important than collecting "views."

At least two vessels have sunk/written off after I posted their photos that I took earlier;
My pictures from Shipspotting have been used by two TV channels, appeared in a recently published book; have appeared on at least three web sites of shipping companies, etc. The crewmember of a tug he saw himself on, asked permission to use my picture on his Facebook page and the (UK) Royal Navy asked permission to use some of my photographs as reference information of Royal Navy and NATO vessels.

That's enough reward for me; I really don't collect number of "views."

So "Likes" rather than "views."

The photograph I am referring to in this forum topic of copy right violation is that of
Canadian fishing vessel/cash buyer/reefer East Isle:

www.shipspotting.com/gallery/photo.php?lid=1701057

The chances that Tom McDonagh could have taken this very same image at this remote location
in British Columbia at that very same moment, are nil.

Now wait a minute, Captain Ted.... earlier you said a billion;

now you're talking about billions (i.e. plural).

I think I'd better get into the game and claim my share.....

Dream on, Captain Ted. Bill Gates will be able to hire a more expensive and sleezier lawyer.

By putting your pics in the public domain, you basically give permission for others to enjoy and also to use your posted images.

Courtesy would expect you to get at least credit; posting without credit, I can still consider "borrowing," while posting them under your own name, however, is clearly "theft."

Unfortunately, water marks can easily be removed.

I really don't mind sharing my photos and that others use them and/or post them
elsewhere, as long as they give proper credit.

But seeing my photographs with somebody else's name as copyright, really gets up
my hackles!

Just by accident I noticed that one of my photographs was posted on Marine Traffic.com
under the copyright name of a Tom McDonagh.

My several requests to Marine Traffic to get my proper copy right to my photograph went unanswered and without any results.

Even finally thanks to the help of Ken Smith, they gave me my proper credit, but it took
several months.

I am just wondering how many more of my approx. 4,000 photographs on Shipspotting are appearing elsewhere with somebody else's copyright on it.....

Many people, shipping companies etc. have used my photos but have always given proper credit.
