sad story indeed;
cheap crew replaced by an even cheaper one.
all non-union of course....
new owners picked up this vessel for a song anyway.

Being unable to make any more sea voyages, HMCS Preserver's duties are now reduced to being a glorified fuel barge. She'll probably be officially retired in 2015.
With replacement vessels for HMCS Protecteur and HMCS Preserver still a long time in the future, this leaves our once so proud navy truely in shambles..... Pity...

On 14 May 2015, Canadian Navy supply ship HMCS Protecteur (AOR509)

On April 27, Transport Canada finally allowed MV Marathassa to return to normal operations and leave Canadian waters. TC inspectors were confident the grain-carrying vessel's deficiencies had been fixed and now meets regulations and was environmentally safe to travel.

The operators of MV Marathassa have agreed to pay for cleanup and to appear in future legal
proceedings that can lead to additional fines.

Spill happened on a perfectly calm day during bunkering operation and was not reported by the vessel's master.
The vessel is reportedly only three months old and was on her maiden voyage to Vancouver.
Spill more significant than originally reported, and with an approaching storm, the bunker fuel is washing up on beaches of both north and south of Fraser River banks.
Also, a very slow response by Canadian Canadian Coast Guard to contain the spill made the spread worse.

For photographs of bunker fuel oil spill caused by the fairly new vessel Marathassa, IMO 9698862 near Vancouver, BC, Canada see:

The Live Ships location on one of my computers is stuck (and has been for a long time) on a location I do not select/want.
How can I fix this?
Thanks.

Farewell Annapolis and good luck with your new career;

sixth ex Canadian Navy vessel sunk by Artificial Reef
Society of BC (and a former Canadian Airlines Boeing 737)

very clean and fast sinking with vessel going down in less
than two minutes.

Thanks Ken and Tony,

Works like a charm; 186 photos to go through is better than 167,087....
