Does anyone know what the Qingdao Tower is doing in Southampton? I was down to see the Aida Stella over a month ago and she was berthed by the QEII terminal, very empty - rudder and top of prop visible. looking at AIS she is still in Southampton, abit in a different place - any ideas why she is still there?

There has been a fire onboard the Condor Ferries Conventional ferry, the Commodore Clipper.

The fire was in the Lower Vehicle deck. The fire has been controlled and came into Portsmouth with assistance of two tugs.

The Commodore Clipper has now berthed in Portsmouth.

Shipping News and information / Lanemeters
« on: November 29, 2009, 02:20:38 PM »
Hi

I was looking round for the definition of what a lane meter is (dimensionally).

According to http://www.unc.edu/~rowlett/units/dictL.html, a lane metre is 1m x 1 lane, where a lane is 2m.

This is fine, I just thought that the width of a lane on a ferry is slightly more then 2m?

Does anyone know how wide a 'lane' on a ferry actually is?

Many Thanks

Hi,

The Queen Mary 2 apparently slipped her moorings in Zeebrugge today, following a strong gust of wind.

There were 2 tugs to help her thankfully.

She is still currently in Zeebrugge, she should have left about 2.5 hours ago

Shipping News and information / Wha's happened to old King Harry (6)?
« on: October 21, 2008, 01:19:07 PM »
A few months ago, I cam across the King Harry chain ferry laid up in what I now know to be Pounds Marine Shipbreaking Yard:

Does anyone know what has happened to her, whether she has been broken up or is to be sold? Would like to know her fate.

Thanks,
