Then today when i looked for her is shown at Hook of Holland still with destination China. Is it me or Marine Traffic again, I tried to find the position of 2 ships on Fri 16/12/11 and both were out of range on Marine Traffic but found both on Sailwx

Shipping News and information / VLCC Eliza 9387578
« on: December 10, 2011, 04:13:40 PM »
To supply all of the worlds crude-oil needs today, there are only about 3,500 tankers steaming out on the open seas or anchored at ports. Demand for their services far exceeds this supply, and, as a result, tanker rates have soared in the past year much faster than the price of crude oil itself. According to a report by McQuilling Services, an ocean-transport consultant, the world will be 26% short of big oil tankers, known as very large crude carriers, or VLCCs, through the end of this year. (A VLCC is a crude-oil tanker of at least 200,000 tons deadweight. It is big, larger than an aircraft carrier.) When you consider not just the number of tankers afloat but also the extent to which they are actually available due to port congestion, the supertanker industry appears even more tonnage deficient, according to a Bloomberg report on the McQuilling finding.
If the above is the case why has VLCC Eliza 9387578 been at anchor in the nab anchorage since 20/11/11 after discharging at fawley.

Shipping News and information / Schelde Trader
« on: October 28, 2011, 08:38:19 PM »
Relieved officials were narrowly spared a repeat of the Rena disaster when a second container ship ran aground at Mt Maunganui yesterday. No oil leaked into the sea.

The grounding of the 133m MV Schelde Trader in the morning came three weeks after the MV Rena slammed into Astrolabe Reef 22km away, where the container ship remains stricken.

Yesterday's incident - blamed on a mechanical failure that cut the ship's power and sent it heading towards the base of Mt Maunganui without steering controls - has sparked fresh calls by the Maori Party and the Greens for wider investigations into the shipping industry.

"It's fantastic to hear there's been no oil spilt, there are no injuries and that it was a comparatively minor incident, but it does raise some serious concerns with two accidents in around a month's time at New Zealand's busiest port," Green MP Gareth Hughes said.

Bay of Plenty Regional Council spokesman Eddie Grogan said no oil leaked from the Schelde Trader and it appeared the ship had escaped with minor damage.

The vessel, which was leaving for Noumea when it struck North West Rock at 10.35am, lay grounded for about 20 minutes before it was refloated and towed back into port.

Amusing VHF exchange of the day, some 20 miles from the eastbound termination of the Singapore Strait: "All ships, I am towing a jack-up rig and am restricted in my ability to manoeuvre, please give me a 1 nm minimum CPA", which was replied to; "Message received, and good luck with that".

Shipping News and information / Date of Photographs
« on: April 16, 2011, 06:33:40 PM »
Checking on to voyage of Bulk carrier Oliva which run aground on Tristan da Cunha on the 16th March 2011 I found a photo on this  site showing her in Santos on the 12th March 2011.
Due to the distant between Santos and Tristan it would have not been possible for her to have got there by the 16th March a journey of about 8 days.
I managed to find a voyage history of OLIVA on AIS and found in fact she left Santos on the 9th March 2011.
Photography dates are important when checking on the voyage history of a ship.
My conspiracy theory then went out of the window.
But I am still missing a bulk carrier that left Santos at about the same time, now 36 days and not showing on Marine Traffic, ETA China 14th April.
Found ATLANTIC HAWK just off DALIAN China.

Shipping News and information / Lioness C IMO 8115007
« on: January 26, 2011, 09:21:01 PM »
I have been following the progress of Lioness C on Marine traffic since she left Southampton in June 2010.She has been very busy and on the 24th December she arrived in Kuson S Korea. On the 31st Dec 2010 she was 4 days out Kuson destination Port Rhoads which I understand is in Jamaica ETA 27.01.11.Using the Distance by sea web site it showed this ETA would be by the Panama canal. When I checked on the 25.01.11 her last reported position was 29 days old off Korea, therefore when I checked today (26.01.11) I expect show up somewhere near the Panama canal.
To my suprise she is showing up off Antwerp which is nearly impossible due to the distant involved. If anyone has any information of her correct position I would be grateful

Thanks Jim

Just asking the question, is it a normal rotation of carge for a bulk carrier to discharge a cargo of grain and then load scrap metal? This is the case with Lioness C which arrived in Southampton with grain and then moved berths to load scrape metal. As she is a 1987 build and her original destination was said to be Vietnam when she sailed on the 25th June, but today shows Singapore as her destination could this be her final journey before becoming herself scrap metal! Compared with the floating hotels, box carriers and mobile garages we see today she at least looked like a working ship with her array of radio masts gave her a pleasing profile which is becoming a rare sight these days.  :-(
