Shipping News and information / For whom the bell tolls...
« on: January 24, 2014, 05:45:24 PM »
...and miracles happen:-)

28 years after it had been stolen from a storage aboard the ship at Hamburg, Cap San Diego's (IMO 5060794) original ship's bell reappeared!

The bell was seized by the police last Tuesday in Cologne, Germany, and meanwhile has returned aboard Cap San Diego:-)

Cheers,
Jens

Shipping News and information / Merita (IMO 5071688) - Any info welcome
« on: January 22, 2014, 08:35:34 PM »
Hi all,

just lately I came across a gem built by my favorite shipyard, J. J. Sietas here at Hamburg:

Merita (IMO 5071688), built by Sietas in 1938 and according to Equasis still in service, flag and call sign currently unknown.
Last known flag was Finland, call sign LMXA...

First name Julia, 1948 Tempo, 1956 Hansa, 1961 Christian, 1965 Lisa, and possibly since 1973 Merita.
Gross tonnage 296, L/B/D (M) 41,46 / 6,79 / 3,25

Can anyone provide some more info about her (especially her current position) or is there even a photo around somewhere?

Kind regards,
Jens

Hello all,

I've a question regarding the fate of Cassiopeia (IMO 8104577).

Equasis, Miramar and Grosstonnage all say she's still in service.

The most recent photo of her I found here dates back to April 2013.

Her last position, however, is according to both Marine Traffic and Fleetmon Guangzhou, China, since September 2013.

Can anyone confirm that she's still in service or has she been broken up in China?

One more question... Is Maersk Venice (IMO 9242651) still laid-up at Sczcecin in Poland? She must be there for roughly a year now (judging from the info I found on the net).

Kind regards,
Jens

Shipping News and information / Trans Agila and Yara Gas II - dead or alive?
« on: September 17, 2013, 06:45:30 AM »
Hi folks,

for some time now Trans Agila (IMO 9113707) seems to send her AIS-signal from a street in the north of Kiel, Germany. Her status is still "under repair" since her grounding last November. Is she really still under repair or has she already been broken up? If so, where and when?

Yara Gas II (IMO 7509172) has been at Frederikshavn, Denmark, for the last 28 days according to her AIS-signal. As Yara Gas I, her sister, has already been broken up at Frederikshavn earlier this year, I am wondering if now it is Yara Gas' II turn. Can anyone confirm this?

Thanks for your help.

Cheers,
Jens

The way she was stopped by Rochdale One is quite interesting...

As Hamburg Journal (German TV) reported tonight, time's running out for J. J. Sietas shipyard at Hamburg-Neuenfelde. So far no new investor could be found and there's none in sight.

So with the delivery of Aeolus (IMO 9612636) in the end of June the shipyard will finally have to close down.

Shipbuilding started at Sietas shipyard in 1635 and continued for 378 years to this very day, making it the oldest shipyard in the world in operation...

What a sad end...

Jens :-(

To everyone interested in coasters (and capable of tuning in on German TV)

There's an interesting documentary about the German coaster Ria (IMO 5239503) and her last owners on German TV tomorrow night (Friday, August 24) at 9.15 pm. (Radio Bremen TV and NDR)

See http://www.radiobremen.de/wissen/alle-artikel/riasabschiedstour112.html for more info (sorry, in German only)

Best regards
