Hi,
since many years I am very interested in "my old ship" ILMATAR and her fate. At the moment I made a film with the title "MS ILMATAR  -Die Geschichte eines Schiffes- 1964-2014". Therefore I have made an intensive research. On this way I have received many photos and other informations and movies all over the world and also in Santo Domingo.

Hi,
here a photo of the PALM BEACH PRINCESS ex VIKING PRINCESS ex ILMATAR at the pier of the scrap yard in Santo Domingo. For me it is a very sad view because between 1975 and 1982 I regularly was aboard the ILMATAR, sometimes as a passenger and often as a crew member.

Hi,

Sorry, I have no current news about the OLA ESMERALDA, but some news about the PALM BEACH PRINCESS. The ship is still located at a scrap yard in Santo Domingo and is already partial demolished.
A Google Earth screenshot with date of Februar 2, 2015 shows the ship still at the scrapp yard.

on December 10, 2014 I uploaded the video with the title BARTOLOMEU DIAS, Video id: 8741. If I search the video in the search window always comes the reply: "Found 0 video"
What is the reason?  Who can help?

Hi Jens,

thanks for your reply. The information from Equasis is certainly correct. But a local TV-video about great problems of the shipyard in Santo Domingo on 25/08/2014 shows that the ship is still in the dock of the yard and not yet demolished. Maybe and hopefully the future of the ship has changed in the meantime.

are there any news about the current status of the PALM BEACH PRINCESS (ex VIKING PRINCESS, ex ILMATAR) ? My last information is that the ship is still docked at a yard in Santo Domingo but not has been scrapped.

I recently was aboard the palm beach princess and made a whole survey in the ship, the capital problema was in the main engine sulzer which suffered a crank failure in the bedplate of the piston number 9, of course the vessel was reclassified to sail with the two nohabs diesel engine, however i think that the qualification of the engineer team and the delay of an maintenance program was the principal cause of the end of the ship, when the owners only think in money and more money and don not made any investment , is the end of any ship

It gives me hope that the good old "Ilmatar" has not yet been scrapped.
