Well done Aaron, this is a great thread for those of us in this part of the world.
Europe's not the only place where it all happens.

New build Wallenius Wilhelmsen PTCC's and RoRo's :

2011 built PTCC the new "Figaro" IMO 9505041 is in Auckland today 4th January, on the WWL Europe to Oceania service. This presumably replaces the old ship of the same name, IMO 7917563. This is a DSME built sistership to "Tiger" IMO 9505039 , "Tugela" IMO 9505065 and the new "Carmen" IMO 9505027 that have visited Auckland in the second half of 2011. These are 232m LoA, 71,600 Grt. Tugela's next scheduled visit is on 10 Feb, Carmen's on 9 March.
The new "Parsifal" IMO 9575395, the second of four contracted of the new Mark 5 RoRo's built by Mitsubishi Nagasaki yard is due in Auckland on 24 March. This is one size larger at 268m LoA, 76,500 Grt than the DSME ships and have a stronger ramp to load heavier machinery. Sistership "Tonsberg" IMO 9515383 is due in Auckland again on 21 February.
There is a new ship "Tysla" IMO 9515400 scheduled to visit Auckland on 24 April. I do not know if this is the third mark 5 RoRo of the four ordered or another DSME built PTCC.
The Wilhelmsen branded ships ( with names starting with a "T") are painted in orange and white, the Wallenius branded ships ( named after Opera's ) are painted in Green and white.

regards,
Nigel

Stephen,

In June last year the Bernard Schepers loaded around 80 containers of SCL - Split Cell Lining which is a by product of the smelting process. It was loaded for Liverpool and she bunkered here on the way there. It is also used as an alternative fuel in the production od ceramic insulators, bricks and cement. My guess is that Melbourne is the next scheduled port she must be bunkering here as well
The service is run by SE Shipping ( Suzlon Energy - the movers of windmill equipment principally )of Singapore and was supposed to be every five weeks but it seems that was a little over optimistic

Pete

It is sad to see that the MV Jaguar, IMO 8416487, is lying at No7 wharf at Lyttleton in the process of being broken up. She was dry docked in August 2010 and emerged looking very good indeed. Unfortunately her owners went into receivership and there was no interest from anyone to purchase the vessel.

Coastal Bulk Shipping's "Anatoki" is transporting coal cargoes for Bathurst Resources Ltd from Westport to New Plymouth. She is in New Plymouth every four days.
Does this mean that Coastal Bulk Shipping will need to get another vessel to operate their general fertiliser and aggregate trades on the coast? It is very difficult to find any news on this company, and the vessel movements.

Hi Aaron

From what I can make out the Hamburg-Sud "Bahia" vessels are being progressivly drydocked and replaced while out by other vessels to keep the schedule going for our peak export season. Bahia Grande went first when replaced 13.4 by Bahia Blanca. Then Bahia left on 1.5 and replaced by the returning Bahia Grande. She returned on 23.5 to r/p Bahia Negra which is not planned to return - so at this stage she is dropped and Bahia Blanca the newcomer. However Balthasar Schulte may only do one more trip so maybe Bahia Negra will slot back in for her. Maersk apparently have replacements lined up for their small contributions Irenes Remedy and Maersk Jaun, possibly within current voyages.

Lisa Schulte after ending her NZ charter has been chartered by Maersk so may still end up back in the NZ trade.

Cheers

Brent

Hi

Our company feeders at least 20 full reefers each sailing from New Plymouth, that is when it calls as sometimes like this week the portcall is cancelled and causes a real scramble and heartache to find alternative transport. Cargo is for containerships calling at Auckland (and some to Tauranga) with trucking from Onehunga across town to the container terminal necessary and usually needs to be same day such as for the Trident sailings to east coast USA each Friday. If a container is selected for customs x-ray then adds to the tension whether all can be achieved in a short space of time. Perhaps these issues lead to the decision to go to Auckland port, but then we have not been advised of the service change which is significant, as having a longer transit as mentioned will jeopardise the tight but beneficial quick connections.

Cheers

Brent

Spirit of Resolution omitted Onehunga and called Auckland last month as she could not cross the Manukau Bar due to the weather conditions. The following voyage was LYT to Auckland only in order to make up lost time. Last week it was LYT - NPL and ONE. This week she is doing the a full voyage of LYT - NSN - NPL and ONE.

Josephine Maersk damaged in collision near Tanjung Pelepas and will need repair after completing current discharge at Singapore. She will be substituted for her new voyage presumably by the JanDavid S. The July voyage by Dahlia on southern star has been cancelled with the northbound leg to be undertaken by terminating transtasman vessel Maersk Aberdeen and Pacific Island trader Amazon River repositioning back to Singapore.

The MSC Brasilia has already been transferred to a Laem Chabang / Singapore shuttle service pending delivery with MSC London to either follow or seek short-term employment on China trades. The MSC Brasilia was to also undertake short-haul Asian service work but now appears enough time prior to delivery to make a further trip on the Australasian Capricorn service. Another Capricorn vessel Merkur Sky has also been sold for scrap, but unlike the MSC's she was only 17 years old whereas the Tsakos trio are around 26 years.

Reef Shipping's new vessel for their feeder service from Fiji to Micronesia is Pacifica Shipping's coastal vessel "Spirit of Resolution" IMO 9139127. She is due to berth at Freyberg Wharf Auckland on 29 October to load for her delivery voyage to Suva. She will be renamed "Reef Nauru II".
The current "Reef Nauru" the old "Southern Express" IMO 8506464 will be renamed "Reef Fiji" to commence a new service from Tauranga and Auckland to Fiji and then Vila and Santo. The "Southern Tiare" which is at present on this run will be placed on a dedicated Auckland to Niue service.

Ports of Auckland now have her arriving from Onehunga as "Reef Nauru", so it appears crew change , renaming and hand over to new owners will happen at Onehunga.

My understanding is that Pacifica are looking at suitable vessels to replace Spirit of Resolution and maintain the west coast service. The ships crew are "on holiday" and not paid off indicating they will be required again.

She is the "Antung" ex Scarlett Lucy IMO 8912871. She will be renamed "Tiare Moana", which was the name of the vessel used by the now defunct Shipping Corporation of New Zealand.
She will load in Auckland 27 November for Rarotonga, Aitutaki and PagoPago.

Reef Shipping's move to a "stand alone" shipping company seems to have fizzled out a bit. Their schedule has gone from a six vessel operation, down to three.
The "Southern Tiare" is laid up in Auckland with engine trouble, ETD 21 November? This necessitated her cargo for Niue and Tonga being shipped on the newly acquired "Reef Nauru II".
There is no forward schedule for "Reef Nauru" or "Reef Express" although the latter will do one voyage from Auckland to Suva, Vila and Santo.
Their latest schedule has "Southern Reef" now doing Auckland-Papeete-Rarotonga-Aitutaki-Niue-Auckland.
The "Reef Samoa" will do Tauranga-Auckland-Lautoka-Suva-Apia-Pago Pago-Vavau-Nukualofa-Tauranga.
The new "Reef Nauru II" will do the feeder service from Suva to Micronesia, Nauru and the Solomon Islands.

The new vessel does not appear to have her own cranes. How will this work in the Port of Onehunga?

The "Spirit of Independence" will not call at Onehunga. The ship LOA is to large and no cranes onboard for Onehunga. Port of Onehunga will be visited now only by cement ships and maybe occassionally by the "Anatoki".

Interesting on the Marsden Point port website:

Anatoki    arrive 22/11/2012 - 12:00  Depart 24/11/2012 - 03:00   MP 1   Coastal Bulk Shipping      Dolomite (Discharge) Cement (Load)
Arrive from Tarakohe   Depart for Sea (anyone no where she is headed?)

I presume the cement must be bagged.

The bulk cement carrier "Golden Bay" is in dry dock and annual survey until at least the middle of December, so other means of getting cement around the coast must be found.

The Holcim bulk cement carrier "Westport" is arriving from Onehunga to load a cargo to take to Napier.

She is "Kota Raja" IMO 9167423. She is smaller and older than the present vessel and will also be renamed "Capitaine Tasman".
No word yet on the fate of the current vessel, but I assume she will be returned to her owners.
