Title: Bahamas Paradise Cruise Line ship disposal
Post by: Angelgreat on November 16, 2020, 11:37:01 PM
There are rumors that the Grand Celebration (ex. Carnival Celebration) has been sold for scrap in Alang, India (the same place where her sister ship Henna (ex. Carnival Jubilee, Pacific Sun) was scrapped in 2017) as it seems like the vessel has been sold. Now, BPCL is denying that they sold the vessel for scrap, but her ship tractor says otherwise as it has a destination for Alang. Also, news articles are talking about her. If the sale is confirmed to be true, that will leave the Magellan (ex. Carnival Holiday, Grand Holiday) as the last Holiday-class vessel (Magellan was recently bought by SeaJets). You know, SeaJets could have bought Grand Celebration. After all, they bought her sister ship Magellan.

Yes indeed, they could have done that but perhaps, having just bought several other cruise ships they decided they just did not need another one.

After a week of denial, Bahamas Paradise Cruise Line has confirmed that they did sell the Grand Celebration. They refused to say who they sold her to, but they also said that they're going to keep and upgrade the Grand Classica. Here is the link:

It's likely the so-called Unknown Buyers are acually the Alang shipbreakers as Grand Celebration is around the tip of South Africa heading to Alang.

Does anybody know why Grand Celebration is heading to Port Louis, Mauritius?

I would suspect it is a stop off port on her way to Alang for scrapping.

AIS is now showing her off Port Louis with her name truncated to "Grand" and reflagged to St. Kitts and Nevis, the only real question left is which beach she's headed to.

It's Alang, India.

Thank you for these links, is that Phoenix Reisen ex-ALBATROS in the background on the right? Would like to see more pic's of her as I did four cruises on that old lady.
Regards, Pieter.
