Title: Marella Cruises disposals
Post by: Angelgreat on July 03, 2020, 05:47:42 PM
Their current position shows that they may head to be scrapped alongside Pullmantur Cruises' Sovereign and Monarch.

Agree, doesn't look good for these two. Very sad, I always loved Nieuw Amsterdam/Noordam of 1983/84 with their functional lines, but their time has come and at 36 years, Marella Celebration (ex-Noordam) has had a good run.

Also, the writing was on the wall for Marella Dream. She was initially included in the 2021 programme for Marella that they issued when they withdrew Marella Celebration, but I guess they thought again, which is not surprising in the current market.

Marella Dream is suddenly heading for Zadar (Croatia) with en ETA of 11 July 2020. Very odd, maybe lay-up instead of scrapping?

That is good hope that the Marella Dream will still be saved. I'm certain the ex. Homeric/Westerdam/Costa Europa will still sail. Besides, she had been heavily refurbished in 2015, and has the latest technology available despite being built in 1986 (lengthened in 1990). I wouldn't say the same for the Marella Celebration. She was built as HAL's Noordam in 1984 and is currently the oldest vessel in the Marella fleet. Marella also sold her sister, the Marella Spirit (ex. Nieuw Amsterdam) to the shipbreakers in 2017, so it's likely the Marella Celebration will meet the same fate as her sister.

Marella Celebration has been renamed Mare C. This is similar to when the Marella Spirit was renamed Mare S for her last voyage to Alang. This means the Marella Celebration (ex. Noordam) will head to the scrap yard.

Marella Cruises has confirmed that the Marella Dream will be retired. I fear that she will sail to Aliaga if no one buys her. Here is a link.

Marella Dream is still for sale. So far, no one has bought her. Maybe we can get Phoenix Reisen to buy her as they have retired the second Albatros.

Phoenix have sold Albatros for economical reasons, just to be able to survive (a little longer). They will not buy any ship now, let alone one with barely any balcony cabins and so many insides. Dream - nice as she is - simply does not fit the company's requirements.

MARELLA DREAM was still at Eleusis at the end of December.

Did she actually go to Aliaga as was rumoured last November?

She's waiting for a slot to open so she can be beached.

Your guess, or is there some reliable source for that?
I have seen nothing official - and the only source so far is the blog from November, referencing a single broker-report, and not going beyond "is likely" and "may have".
