LORD WAVERLEY indeed aground at mouth of Stour last April.  I understand that she was  refloated in May and joined LORD DEVONPORT in New Cut, Richborough.

But no idea whether they are still there.  They had been rumoured as going to France.

Hi David

Had a good look round the area today and could find no trace, even the locals didnt seem to know much, they were meant to go upriver but were too deep draft, though you would think that would have been seen as a problem!

Have now seen photo of the two berthed together in the New Cut in May 2011 (they would never have been intended to go further up than that anyway).

Where exactly is the New Cut in relation to the power station and or the small creek where the old Spithead is laying ? Cant imagine i missed them as i did manage to get to the river front to the rear of the old car parks where new cars used to be stored.

It might just be called The Cut nowadays.
They were on the river-front berth just north of Stonar Cut where the Spithead is.  I think it used to be called "New Wharf".
Here: http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?ll=51.302287,1.348776&spn=0.003354,0.006856&t=h&z=17

Sounds like they have moved on (somehow).

Just thought I would let people know that the tugs are still moored on the wharf at Richborough.
I own the old Spithead and I can see them clearly from the back of the barge. They are not however accessible in any way as the wharf is all security fenced.
Any questions welcome.

Many thanks for the update Paul.    Do you know what they are being used for , or perhaps who owns them?

Interesting shot!  :o

Great photo Ben, she was at some strange angles when out in the bay.
I do know the owner, but I have no idea of his eventual plans for the tugs.
The owners friend who is looking after them has invited me out next time one is run up.
I should think that will be quite an experience with the 1100 hp British Polar engine.

Having worked all the 'Lord'Boats at various times,it's a travesty the state they are now in.
They probably ranked, along with the'Old'Yantlet,as some of the best plant the PLA ever had
built.A great pity the PLA never had the foresight to offer one,to interested parties,as a
restoration project.

Sounds great, be sure to get some snaps and keep us updated.  I have her rated as 935bhp British Polar?

Heres an interesting photo of the pair in 1995 owned by Jackabaits at Point Wharf in tidy condition here.

I couldnt agree more. If only others saw what superb tugs these are.   The LORD RITCHIE (Jim higgs) went from the Thames and was the last to be used up until last year.    Shes for sale i believe.

Managed to get in to the River side where these tugs were last reported and they are still there. No work seems to have taken place on them and not sure what the plans are.

LORD WAVERLEY and LORD DEVONPORT were apparently later abandoned by owner.

Now reported sold by the Sandwich Port & Haven Commissioners to Terry Murphy/Charlight Towing Ltd, owner and operator of the delightful little CHARLIGHT, built by T van Duijvendijk, Lekkerkerk in 1936:

Good photos,  the owner apparently saved them from scrap or being sold last minute literally in the last week and i heard they were told to be removed from Sandwich to a new location.   Any idea why they are at Ramsgate, are they still there and being slipped?

Just the one, so far, it seems. The LW looks awful and I am not expecting the sister to be any different.  It does seem a very odd purchase.

I went to look at these two last month David.  Went onboard both as they were due to be sold off very cheaply. I took photos throughout the boats, its more cosmetic and just a mess of how they were badly moored against a concrete wall and knocked about and unloved for 6 years.  They were both locked up and fully working, but do need quite a bit of work thats for sure.   Lord Waverley is actually the one in better nick!  The portside rubbing band of lord devonport is totally hanging off where she has been hitting the wall for years with no fendering, also her wheel is missing after vandals tried to strip her, but other than the wheel she is complete and starts and runs.

The current owner i was told lived abroad and has since paid mooring fees and still owns them and has decided to move them to a new mooring somewhere on the River Medway

Speedwell is towing them today looking at Ais as it says Destination Medway

Im not hopeful that anything will change when they reach there, as they haven't been touched by the owner for 6 years just left laid up and rotting sadly

Hi all,

Does anyone please know if the Lord Waverley made it to the medway, if so does anyone know or can obtain a location for me please?
Desperate to find her as my dad used to work on her years ago, so its a bit of a personal quest.

I hope you can help.

Regards

Dan

Yes, Dan, the pair were towed to the Medway and are moored on a barge just downstream from the Medway Bridge, on the north side.
Unless they have recently moved, the view from the river wall near MacDonalds: http://tinyurl.com/gl3l85h

Lord Waverley and Lord Devonport are moored opposite McDonalds on the River Medway near the Medway motorway bridge outside Rochester.

I know this three is a few years old, but if you're interested tuenpair are moored together at the Medway Bridge Marina in Chatham, Kent.

For the best view you should come to Medway valley Park.
