Title: New Sub-Category for Ships Funnels
Post by: kensmith on November 27, 2010, 04:27:35 PM
Hi All,

In response to comments in the Forum regarding Ships Funnels and with the approval of the category Admin a Sub Category has been set up titled "Historical / Unidentified Ship Funnel Marks".

The Main Funnel Category should be used for Funnel Marks when full information and a Company Web Site is available, only use the Sub Category when no information or Web Site is available, when using this Sub Category please endeavour to give the Ships Name and IMO Number and as much information as possible.

Kind regards
Ken Smith

Thank you Ken.

That's a welcome and very sensible improvement.

The other question raised by several in the other string is the question of "one only" deletions.  This remains of concern as the unannounced deletion of existing or new photos in this category is not right for the contributors.  Presumably it means that when a company changes its design, the old photo disappears.  That shouldn't happen.

For example, here is the funnel of Star Reefers: http://www.shipspotting.com/gallery/photo.php?lid=1140455

Only it was decided last year by Star Reefers that they will carry the logo of the Siem Group, and the changes are happening apace.  The logo is already on here as Siem Offshore http://www.shipspotting.com/gallery/photo.php?lid=675951.

I don't think that the "proper" blue star should disappear.
Then there is the question of companies that have different or varies designs at the same time.  But you see the point.

At the very least photos should not be displaced, but moved to the historical section.
