Post by: Stephen Chester on August 01, 2006, 03:17:42 AM
Polynesian Shipping Line Ltd are introducing a new vessel to the Auckland-Pacific Island run in August replacing the Thor Hanne.
The new vessel is to be named "Matua", reviving the name of a Union Steamship Co vessel that traded to the Pacific Islands between 1936-1968. She had a yacht like appearance and had accomodation for 40 passengers. She was sold in 1968 and renamed Sultan K.L. under the Phillipines flag. She ran aground in Manila Bay in 1969 during a typhoon, was salvaged and broken up in 1970.
