I gather that the Mona Lisa has got herself at charterer for summer 2007 season, as she according to Orkney Harbours website she is due to visit Kirkwall on June 20th.
Its good to know this old lady has found more employment!! (if true!)
Does anyone know yet who she is operating for?
Regards.

With regard to my first post on this subject Mona Lisa has gone to Pullmantur Cruises for series of Greek Island cruises. She takes the name Oceanic II. www.maritimematters.com or www.pullanturcruises.com

I had read that the Mona Lisa was to become the "Scholar Ship" http://www.thescholarship.com begining in Sept 2007 from Greece.

I would assume, Dry Dock for a Refurb prior to begining this venture.

It has been announced that RCI-owned Pullmantur Cruises will be leasing the classic MONA LISA (ex KUNGSHOLM, SEA PRINCESS, VICTORIA) for Spanish-based cruising as the OCEANIC II over the next three years, putting an end to speculation that the lovely liner would operate for Metropolis Tur. MONA LISA is also being chartered to sail as the SCHOLAR SHIP.
What cruises will made in Pullmantur?

Mona Lisa chartered for 3 years in Pullamntur Cruises and will start 7 days cruises 4 of June in the Aegean islands with embarkation port Athens and Istanbul http://www.pullmanturcruises.com/oceanic2.swf but on Semptember is chartered as a scholar ship until april http://www.thescholarship.com/ and after back to pullmantur ctruises

As far as I know, MONA LISA was recently purchased by the Spanish operator "Pullmantur Cruises" which will renamed she OCEANIC II. She will based in the Mediterranean making seven night cruises between Athens and Istambul. A great new for spanish shiplovers, with no doubt.

It has been annouced on Louis Cruises website that Oceanic II (ex Mona Lisa, Victoria, Sea Princess, Kungsholm) has been chartered as a temporay replacement for the lost Sea Diamond from April 30th to May 28th.
Check out Maritimematters.com for more interesting news regarding her possible future beyond 2010.

Just for the record, there seems to be a demand for Mona Lisa. Maritime Matters reports on an swedish initiative established in Gothenburg with the purpose to aquire Mona Lisa and convert her to her former glory as SAL's Kungsholm (there are plans to restore her 2nd funnel and recreate her former balanced upper structure profile. One funnel was removed and one was enlarged when she was converted to Sea Princess by Princess Cruises). Furthermore, she is to be permanently moored in Gothenburg harbour and to be used as floating hotel, exhibition and convention centre.

That would be quite something. Although making a horrendous loss for John Brown and Co she was a magnificent well built ship. 8-)
