Does anyone know why the Trans Future 5 is spending 10 days berthed in Wellington? She arrived 31 December and is departing for Lyttelton 11 January.
-
Re Trans Future 5, Not sure what's going on but the Trans Future 6 spent a similar amount of time either in or anchored off Nelson over Christmas,, at the time was thinking maybe engineering issues but perhaps they are slowing down the schedule over the New Year?
The Trans Future 6 departed Nelson on 28th December at 10am and spent the rest of the day at anchor,,
-
Thanks, that's interesting. According to shipping arrivals for Lyttelton, both Trans Future 5 and 7 will be in port on the same day. The TF5 is loading MDF, and TF7 is discharging cars and then loading MDF. I don't how they will separate the schedules once they get back to Japan.
-
Reef Shipping's website is down at the moment. When you click on the web address it now says www.matson.co.nz .
I guess the new owners are reconfiguring the site.
-
According to the POAL website, Trans Future 7 is due in Auckland on the 11th January from Melbourne ( presumably with Camry's from the Toyota Altona factory ), sailing for Lyttleton late on the same day.
-
ToyoFuji Shipping are supplementing the Oceania schedule with "Trans Future 3" IMO 9227613 and "Dream Diva" IMO 9325790.
-
Swires's replacement for "Tasman Star" is "Aalsmeergracht" IMO 9044748. She will be renamed "Tasman Bay".
She was previously in Swire's fleet as "Tasman Spirit".

Hi All
What's up with the "Tini" (Spirit of Independence)? Lately she has been shifting berths around the Port of Auckland, and is down to do more of it. She is loaded with containers that I presume are coastal exports, so shippers must be getting annoyed.
Her running mate "Spirit of Endurance" is in dry dock and has spent more time there than was anticipated. She leaves dry dock on the 14 January and goes to Bledisloe wharf, and loads her first cargo on the 17th.
"Tini" moves from Jellicoe to Fergusson, AGAIN, on the 12th, and then back to Jellicoe until 16th?.
She also doesn't appear to have been renamed. When will with this happen?
-
Stephen
She's a mystery to us also. She has mechanical issues to be resolved plus safety issues. We can't/wont work her till these are done. I am working this arvo on her, this was yesterday, but when I left work last night this had been canned for some reason. I am surprised to now see her at FX again. So I'm not sure what happens when I get to work in a couple of hours.
Word is though, she's a dog.
I'll keep you posted.

Oluf Maersk is transferring from the OC1 North America schedule to the South East Asia schedule. She will replace Olivia Maersk at Port Chalmers on 23 January. Olivia Maersk will then transfer to the OC1 schedule.
A replacement vessel for the listed "MDV Graham" on the South East Asia schedule is "E.R.Malmo" IMO 9315848.
-
Hi Mike
Thanks for that, knew there must be something up. I wonder who does the background checks on these vessels before they take delivery? It's no good finding out once they have arrived to start work. Maybe they are are holding off on renaming as they may have to hand her back. ;D
-
Hi
We rely on the New Plymouth service and as of Friday was advisede to us her V1 of SOI will be this week incl. New Plymouth Thursday 17th, will be very depressed if not there just hope you guys are being pessimistic.
Cheers

-
Stephen,
We took all the boxes we loaded last week, back off her except, the Nelson boxes. The others will go south on the OOCL New Zealand on Monday.
Appears she has significant engine problems. In the bosses words "it's rooted".
-
Thanks Mike.
Wonder why they kept the Nelson boxes on board? I see she has a supposed departure of 16 January, so maybe she will go straight to Nelson and then New Plymouth. That is if the problems are fixed.
Sorry Brent, doesn't look like she will be in New Plymouth on 17th.

Maersk are pulling out of their service between Auckland and Tahiti. Pacific Direct Line will charter a R-Class vessel from PIL for the service. It will be a sister to Forum Fiji and Kota Raja (Capitaine Tasman).
She will be renamed "Southern Trader" and enter service shortly. Maybe it will be the old Capitaine Tasman?
-
It appears as though the first of Swire Shippings newbuildings is to join their North Asia service. The Shansi is due in NZ in late April to replace the Anking.
-
MSC have replaced the ageing Komodo with the Mare Britanicum 9235074 on their 'Capricorn' service, presumably releasing the former to have an appoitment with a gas axe on a beach somewhere
-

You are correct Stephen. Capitaine Tasman has just been renamed Southern Trader.

-
Hi Tony
She is at present in dry dock in Singapore.
-
"Southern Tiare" IMO 8719176 which has been laid up in Auckland since 6 November 2012 is to be renamed "Manini" by Matson South Pacific.
They are also renaming "Reef Samoa" IMO 9264245 "Liloa", and "Southern Reef" IMO 9141704 "Olomana".
I guess the other vessels will also be renamed in due course.
They are certainly putting their stamp on their new acquisition.
-
MSC are now showing Mare Phoenicium on their Capricorn schedule due March 2012
-
Maersk's "BC San Francisco" will end it's Tahiti run at the end of May. It will then transfer to the Noumea, Suva, Lautoka run loading 7 May.

-

-

-
The replacement for "Anking" is "San Rafael" ex "Cape Donington" IMO 9231133.
-
Does anyone know about the new sailing schedule for the "Rangatira"?
She is in port at Timaru at the moment and sails for Wanganui. On her next trip back from the Chathams she sails from Timaru to Wellington.
-
The Ukrainian fishing vessel FV Mainstream IMO 8729676, chartered by Independent Fisheries, was today officially reflagged, bringing it under New Zealand labour, and health and safety laws.
More chartered fishing vessels are to be reflagged in the future.
-
There are more changes on MSC's Capricorn Service
MSC Monica is to be replaced by MSC England
E.R. Brisbane is to be replaced by MSC Prague
(E.R. Brisbane was doing a repositioning voyage only)
White Sea to be replaced by an as yet unnamed vessel
-
MV Rangatira is taking much needed feed hay from Timaru to Wanganui. (see article)

-
MV Rangatira is taking much needed feed hay from Timaru to Wanganui. (see article)
http://www.wanganuichronicle.co.nz/news/ship-brings-in-extra-hay/1791565/
The Baldur also loaded hay in Timaru for discharge in Napier
-
MSC have now advised that the White Sea will be replaced by the Messologi which has been in layup.
With her length of 294.118 meters, she would become the longest container ship to visit NZ, beating the Maersk Detroit by .018 of a meter.
-
With the recent decision by MAERSK to leave the OVSA (Oceania Vessel Sharing Agreement )
Hamburg Sud will be contributing an additional vessel to the PSW sling in
order to ensure the current fixed day weekly frequency of their service to West Coast North
America.
The JPO Scorpius v.326 N will be replaced by Cap Corrientes v.326 N in Sydney for the planned northbound voyage from Australia and NZ to West Coast North America.
I can't find a listing for this vessel so may be a renaming.
Maersk's charter JPO Scorpius will sail from Sydney to Nelson and Tauranga to load for Tanjung Pelepas.
-
Does that mean Maersk have pulled out of the service and are starting their own service,as it used to be. Or are they just packing their bags and going home.
-
Hi Mike
From their schedule it looks like they may be pulling out of the WCNA run and leaving it to Hamburg Sud.
-
@Stephen: CAP CORRIENTES is a 3,820 teu newbuilding: IMO 9670822, Taizhou Catic Shipyard, China.
-
"HS Berlioz" IMO 9315343 is replacing "Cap Mondego" on the Japan/China to Australia/NZ run.
-
"Maersk Jurong will transfer from the NZ1 to the OC1 schedule.
"Olga Maersk" will transfer from the OC1 to the NZ1 schedule.
This will happen on 26 March at Port Chalmers.
-
Mike
Maersk will offer WCNA ports over Tanjung Pelepas in future as apparently infighting between the VSA lines with too bigger ships is making the service unprofitable. Begs the question why Hamburg-Sud would put a 3,800 TEU vessel on the service then but I guess they are looking too keep their owned fleet employed and current market conditions may necessitate "out-of-gauge" vessels on some services. And Maersk's alternative service is hardly likely to enamour services as now will be via Tanjung Pelepas which is already at capacity (for peak season period anyway).
Cheers

"Manini" ex Southern Tiare IMO 8719176 has finally sailed from Auckland. She arrived in port on 6 November 2012.
She has headed to Nelson for repairs and will be there until 29 April.
-
Wellington Strait is to be replaced by the Bonny on the ANZEX Service
-
Just been looking at the "Manini" berthing in Nelson. The Port of Nelson have some great clear webcams to look at operations at the port. :D
-
It appears as though Cap Manuel is to be replaced by HS Chopin on the Japanese Service
-
Auckland is expecting a visit from "MSC Immacolata" IMO 9463205. She is the first car carrier with a MSC name.
-
"Irenes Reliance " IMO 9315862 will replace "Olga Maersk" on the NZ1 South East Asia schedule.
-
Swire Shipping are showing a vessel called the Nanning on their South East Asian schedule due in July.
No details available.
-
Tony - It may be the third of their 31000 Dwt new buildings from the Zhejiang Ouhua Shipyard.
The "Shansi" - IMO 9614476 and yard # 637; and the "Shantung" - IMO 9614488 and yard # 638; were christened at a ceremony on 13th March. The third in the series for Swire Group, yard # 639, is due to be launched in mid April.
http://www.ouhuashipbuilding.com - look in the news section.
-
The third newbuild is supposed to be named "Shaoshing".
-
The complete list is as follows so I suspect the Nanning will be a chartered vessel
Shansi
Shantung
Shaoshing
Shengking
Shuntien
Siangtan
Soochow
Szechuen
-
Anatoki is in Wellington 8 April to discharge cement from Whangarei. I presume it is bagged on pallets.
Rangatira is due 9 April from Timaru. The arrivals says "other bulk cargo", but I think it may be hay bales.
-
After just one trip on NZJ service HS Chopin being replaced by Cap Cortes in June and HS Berlioz makes just two trips and will be replaced in July by Cap Cleveland, must be a new version as previous NZ trader of same name is now sailing as Sofia Schulte. One is probably a sisters to newbuild Cap Corrientes that was part of an order for two US$50mn vessels from the Chinese Taizhou Kouan SB Co's. Taizhou Catic yard for charter to Hamburg-Sud by German tramp owner Carsten Rehder.
-
Pacific Direct Line are to take over the "Manini" IMO 8719176 from Matson line for their service to Norfolk Island. This vessel used to be "Southern Tiare" under Reef Shipping and ran to Niue Island. She is dry docking in Nelson at present and will be renamed "Southern Tiare" again for her new service. She will load in Auckland 31 May.
In the interim they have chartered the "Baldur" IMO 7607182 a converted fishing vessel, that trades to the Chatham Islands from Napier, to do one trip to Norfolk Island. She will load in Auckland 30 April.
-
It looks like "Messologi" will only do one trip on the Capricorn service for MSC. She is to be replaced By "Mare Arcticum" IMO 9213284.
CMA CGM are to replace "Westerems" with "Noble Regor" IMO 9509126, on their ANZEX service.

Anybody know what has happened to vessel tracking on the East Coast of the North Island of New Zealand. This website www.marinetraffic.com is a great site for monitoring traffic for free. It seems to have lost satelite in this area.

AIS works off a VHF signal which has a range of approx 40nm. There are no satelites required, you are thinking of gps. I have never sailed the NZ coast but my guess would be there are no ships in range/ in the area. If there is meant to be something in Gisborne I would guess the ship must have their AIS transmitter off.
Regards Robbie
-
Thanks Robbie, Im not sure how its all run and I do know of many vessels in this area. I have been monitoring this site for many months and up until a week or so ago, they seem to disappear between Auckland and Tauranga through to Napier and beyond until Wellington where all vessels are picked up again.
-
MOL Spring will bd replaced by MOL Delight at Shanghai in early June
-
Their is a land based AIS receiver in the Gisborne area but it's been offline for some days now what I can see and in turn not feeding the Marinetraffic servers in Greece. Their will be vessels in the Gisborne area or passing coastwise some 20-30 miles offshore but the land based station needs to be online to pick them up. It's pretty uncommon for international trading vessels these days to turn off their AIS transmitters so that's not the reason behind you seeing nothing in this area of late. Of course VHF transmissions are mainly line-of sight so at sea level not a great distance can be covered..unless the receiver station is as high as possible. Our old receiver position was at sea level and the range was 10-15 miles on average..now it's around 3,000 feet and it can go out to 350 nautical miles or usually averages 125-150 miles most days. Even a local radio tech guy was impressed by such a distance. In the right atmospheric conditions we have seen VHF AIS signals bounce across the Southern Alps (that's up over 12,000 foot mountains) from fishing vessels on the west coast to our receiver on the East Coast. I know signals in the mid-Tasman can also be received when the conditions are right. I'm sure the operators of the Gisborne receiver will be back at some stage. Our is on 24/7 and over the past 18 months has been online 99.9% of the time. Our Timaru receiver has picked up some vessels on the Wairarapa coast.

The vessel to replace the "Southern Fleur" on Pacific Direct Lines Noumea service is " Kota Ratu" IMO 9167435. She was last in the fleet as "Southern Lily" and will be renamed "Southern Moana" for her new role.
-
Pacific Direct Lines vessel "Southern Tiare" ex Manini IMO 8719176 loads for Norfolk Island in Auckland on 1 June.
It appears she will also be trading to the Chatham Islands, for Chatham Island Shipping Co, in between her voyages to Norfolk Island.
The schedule appears to be: Auckland - Norfolk Is - Napier - Chathams - Timaru - Napier - Auckland.
I can't fathom out the cargo for the Timaru to Napier leg. Any ideas?
-
Stephen, understand the Timaru connection is twofold, discharging cargo from the Chathams as well as at Napier, and also to feeder PDL Pacific Island cargo to Auckland and Napier as well. Baldur arrived back in Napier yesterday afternoon and laying over until 25th, not sure whereafter then.
-
Thanks Brent.
The "Southern Tiare's" first voyage is from Nelson, where she has been up on the slip for hull painting and name change, to Timaru, where she spends one day, and then on to Napier, where she spends five days. She then sails to Auckland to start her first voyage to Norfolk Island.
According to Chatham Island Shipping website, the "Baldur" will continue to service the Chathams from Timaru and Napier. I wouldn't have thought there was enough cargo for three vessels, with the "Rangatira" doing Timaru to Chathams as well.
-
Southern Lily 2 IMO 9278909 will be renamed "Kota Hening" before her departure from NZ.
-
"Noble Regor" is doing one south bound sailing on the ANZEX service and then transferring to the Panama Direct service to replace "CMA CGM Matisse. She will in turn transfer to the ANZEX
service. The swap will occur in Auckland with the arrival of Noble Regor on 8 June and CMA CGM Matisse on 9 June.
-
"Maersk Jurong" will do one northbound voyage on the NZ1 schedule and finish in Singapore. No further voyages are available for this vessel.
The "Olga Maersk" will transfer to the OC1 schedule replacing Maersk Jurong.
The cargo transfer between these vessels will occur in Auckland on 21 May.
The new vessel replacing Olga Maersk is a return of "Nicolai Maersk" IMO 9192454.
-
"Southern Cross" IMO 9436874 will be renamed "Kota Darjah" for her return to Singapore.
-
The CSC Zhong Hai and Pacific Lohas have been replaced by "Matsumae", "Matsushima" and "Mutsu" on the Triboard export trade to Japan. The discharge port in Japan has changed from Hiroshima to Hatsukaishi.
-
The small reefer "Copihue" IMO 8811857 is due mid June at Marsden Point, Tauranga and Napier to load butter for Singapore.
-
And an old friend returns to the Maersk Asia Star service, with Nicolai Maersk back next month.
-
Maersk are doing a major reorganisation of their NZ1 South East Asia service.
From mid July there will be two strings from New Zealand to Singapore and Tanjung Pelepas.
Five vessels will service Nelson, Wellington and Tauranga.
They are:
Jeppesen Maersk
Irenes Reliance
Josephine Maersk
Oluf Maersk
Jens Maersk
Five 2001 built sisters of 50,721 GRT will service Auckland, Lyttelton and Port Chalmers.
They are:
Leda Maersk
Laust Maersk
Lica Maersk
Laura Maersk
Lexa Maersk
These vessel will all head to the "Repair Yard" before entering service.
This means that Maersk Juan, Maersk Jambi, Maersk Jubail, Maersk Jaipur, E R Malmo and Nicolai Maersk will be exiting the service.
This also means that Maersk will be leaving the WCNA service they presently share with Hamburg Sud, and all containers will be transshipped over Tanjung Pelepas.
-
Hamburg Sud are replacing Cap Vilano with "E R Wilhelmshaven" IMO 9246310 on the WCNA run. She is due in Auckland 4 August.
-
I don't know what's happening with the second string. According to the Maersk schedule Josephine Maersk & Oluf Maersk are having a 1 month lay up in Singapore. Jens Maersk is having a 2 month lay up and Irenes Reliance is finishing on 25 August also in Singapore. Only Jeppesen Maersk seems to be having an uninterrupted schedule.
-
Maersk have advised that during the phase in period of the revised schedules, some ports will only be served fortnightly between July and September, so this must be why some ships have been temporarily laid up.
On Swires North Asian Service, Pine's 1,3 and 6 are to be replaced by newbuilds Shengking, Shuntien and Siangtan.
-
CMA CGM are to replace the San Aurelio with the Amalia C on the ANZEX Service
-
She used to be Hamburg Sud's "Cap Ortegal" IMO 9166649.
-
It looks like the Amalia C won't be joining the ANZEX Service now and instead the Thomas Mann (IMO 9248667) will take her place.
-
"Noble Regor" is doing one south bound sailing on the ANZEX service and then transferring to the Panama Direct service to replace "CMA CGM Matisse. She will in turn transfer to the ANZEX
service. The swap will occur in Auckland with the arrival of Noble Regor on 8 June and CMA CGM Matisse on 9 June.
It looks like this swap will no longer happen, although Noble Regor is moving to Jellicoe Wharf for one day, and CMA CGM Matisse will make a call at Auckland.
-
MOL are to replace the MOL Winter with the MOL Dedication (IMO 9352391) on the NZX Service
-
HS Berlioz is to be replaced by newbuild "Cap Campbell" IMO 9644990, and HS Chopin is to be replaced by newbuild "Cap Cleveland" IMO 9620607 on the Japan/China schedule.
-
Maersk are to take slots on Hamburg Sud's WCNA vessels for Trans Tasman cargo only.
-
After only one voyage, MSC Kerry is to be replaced by Cape Madrid (IMO 9571301) on the Capricorn Service.
-
Marfret Sormiou is to be replaced by Merkur Bay on CMA CGM's Panama service
-
Shengking is the latest newbuild for Swire Shipping to appear on the North Asian schdule.
She will be replacing the San Rafael.
-
The "Nanchang" IMO 9102514, ex Pacific Navigator has been renamed "Chang" and gone to India for scrapping. A new Nanchang is due Auckland 15 July.
-
From July the "Baldur" will run from Timaru to the Chatham Islands, and the "Southern Tiare" will be based in Napier.
-
The new "Nanchang" is ex "Rickmer Rickmers" IMO 9082805.
-
There seems to be a new southbound shipping service started by NYK Line with their vessels that load Triboard northbound in Wellington, Gisborne, and Marsden Point for Japan.
The service is titled Australia/Bali Hai and will call at Yokohama-Kobe-Brisbane-Newcastle-Geelong-Auckland-Tauranga-Timaru. The schedule will then load at the above three ports mentioned.
They will utilise MV Mutsu, MV Matsumae, and MV Matsushima.
I don't know what the cargo will be, but could be steel?
-
I had a look at the port site for Geelong. The cargo mentioned for these vessels is in fact steel.
-
Matson Line have re organised their South Pacific schedules. The "Liloa" and "Olomana" will both now call at Tauranga and Auckland before proceeding to Fiji/Samoa/Tonga. The "Olomana" will continue to service the Cook Islands, and the "Liloa" will take over the call at Niue.
This will give Bay of Plenty exporters increased frequency to the Islands and a direct call into Rarotonga and Niue.
-
The newbuild Cap Cleveland appears to be delayed as the Cap Ferrato has been scheduled on the North Asia VSA service, replacing HS Chopin at the end of the current voyage.
Marfret's new charter for the USA/Europe service will be renamed marfret Provence(3), while the vessel she replaces Marfret Sormiou has been sold to Danaos and chartered out to NileDutch.
-
MSC are replacing "Mare Phoenicum" with "Kalamata" IMO 8913679 on the Capricorn Service.
-
It appears from the Primeport Timaru website that the "Rangatira" is now sailing, Timaru-Chathams-Wanganui-Timaru.
Anyone know about the Wanganui call?
-
MSC are phasing out the "Reecon Wolf" from the Noumea Service and her replacement is the "Hohebank" that is also on this service and Hohebank replacement is the Vega Auriga.
-

"NYK Lyttelton" is being replaced by "JPO Volans" IMO 9430777 on the NZS South East Asia schedule.

Off on a slight tangent as it is nothing to do with trade, but the POAL website says that HMS Daring will visit Auckland on 17th September for a few days, to be berthed at Princes wharf. This is a newish Destroyer - D 32 - and presumably is on a world tour - it was in Hawaii in July, according to the most recent photo on the site.
On the 16th September HMAS Perth, an Australian Anzac Class frigate is arriving in Auckland, to be berthed at Queens wharf.

It seems the old Auckland bunker barge Tolema is to depart tomorrow morning. the tugs Arataki (IMO 6929844) and Sea Pelican (IMO 8950873) are alongside her now. She is a single hulled bunker barge so my guess is she is going for scrap.
-
Great to think our old Timaru tug Arataki (ex Aorangi) is right now back in Auckland for the moment almost right where she was built some 44 years ago..with a lick of paint and still looking good I presume. Let's hope she's not on a one-way passage to the scrap yard where the barge might be headed!
Any pictures of her in Auckland much appreciated..

SB,
Just downloaded 2 photos of Aorangi which I have scanned. My captions say it was taken in 1972 and would be returning to harbour after taking out the Port Pirie.
-
Super photos and in good colour too! Any idea who took them? It's quite a high aspect view so I wonder what the photographer was on..maybe a inbound ship? Going around the end of the break water their is nothing to climb on to get this angle so it must have been taken off another vessel.

Simon,
Took the photos myself from the Auckland Star (Blue Star Line) when I was a 4th Engineer. Camera used was a Pentax Spotmatic II, slide quite dirty but software that came with Nikon LS4000 scanner did a good job of cleaning it up.
Cheers,
Dave G.

Dave,
Super job all around. Fine effort. At that time (1972) I was only 2 and I doubt I didn't even know what a tug boat was! Appreciate you jumping onboard and uploading these great pics. They really add to our small collection of reference material we have for this tug.
I guess you were arriving to load frozen meat for the UK? I can remember many Blue Star reefers at Timaru during the very very late 70's (when we use to visit the port with my grandfather) and into the 80's. Was quite a busy period back then.
Any more shots at Timaru in the early days appreciated as well. Many thanks once again.
