It was proposed and accepted on Aug 26th 2013 that when considering a photograph for Deletion the
Admin should not go back more than twelve calendar months from the date that the photograph was uploaded, in other words after one year unless of course it is fully justified no photograph should be deleted.

Stan & Bob,

I tried very hard during my time as Webmaster to overcome this problem of linking photographs without success, you will both know that in the early days of the site we were a Community mostly sharing each others photographs and I did emphasis that it should be members only submitting their own photographs, back in those days of the old site pre. 2010 some members started uploading interesting old B&W photos from Museums with copyright approval given and they proved to be very popular, I can assure you all were thoroughly checked out before being allowed.

But then in Oct 2010 the Website changed hands and was under new management, it was still free to members and still is but with the advance of the Social Media this was seen as a means of raising Revenue with the result that we now have in front of us every time we upload a host of links to which we can link our photographs and that sadly is a fact of life now.

There is much more that I could say but it would not be prudent to do so, we are much too far down the road now I fear for any drastic changes to be made and must accept the situation as it is, it has been said this is not a Competition but sadly it would seem for some it is.

I will end by saying that the Webmasters and Administrators are not to blame, they are the hard working unpaid workforce of this Website and deserve Credit for what they do every day for this Website, the situation has been imposed upon them and they are doing their best to keep things  in good order..

Ken

See my piece in page one of this Topic http://forum.shipspotting.com/index.php/topic,15231.0.html, as you will see I did request it be developed to replace the comments sadly nothing came of it, it is member only and can only be used once.

Phil,
I completely agree with your point about there being enough categories as it is and that includes Sub Categories, it has been pointed out that there are very few of these craft so with that that in mind they can quite easily be incorporated within the "Special Purpose Category" after all that is what they are, Special Purpose vessels.

Hope you are keeping well

Hello Ralph, like yourself I always found Paul's Website very helpful but I understand that due to a few problems he has now closed it down.

Hopefully someone will confirm that this is correct.

Well done Cody, it is good to keep them all together, can I suggest extending the cut off date to Jan 5th, that being the 12th day.
Kind regards

Help and Advice / Re: Copyright marking of all photos
« on: November 07, 2016, 07:03:56 PM »

I do not recall any discussions or problems at the time, it was accepted as being the Norm. and the fact that our photographs were covered by Copyright which was visible for all to see, the Copyright was in the name of Shipspotting.com and did not impinge upon the photo.

My guess is that it was lost during the migrations of the Websites, at that time we had a guy called TaHa as the Technical man so it is possible that Henrik will be not be aware of this issue but you can have a word with Clyde, he was heavily involved during the Migration period, I was only the humble Deputy Webmaster but as I have said it might still be somewhere and be retrievable, if not then maybe it could be re-introduced.

Help and Advice / Copyright marking of all photos

Many thanks Stan for confirming that we had a copyright attached which was exactly as you described it to our photographs at some point in the past, I am also pleased that my memory hasn't let me down.

It would have been on the old Server and I believe this information is still available so if there is willingness then maybe it could be restored, as they say every little helps.

Kind Regards

Help and Advice / Copyright marking of all photos

Stan,

Like me you are an original member of the Site, we both joined around the same time so can I test your memory, am I right in thinking that at some point in the past, possibly on the Old Site, our photographs had a Copyright attached at the base of the Image.

I am not entirely sure about this but if I am right re-introducing it could be helpful.

That is very interesting Denis, I was not aware that could be done, I have just been playing around with my mouse and all I can do is add a Like, if I click again then not Like returns, however you have made a point which obviously will need to be looked into.

That is a fact Yvon, but it can only be done once by a member so it is not really a problem in that sense, I think the real reason it has not caught on is because it is impersonal, you do not know who created the like neither do you know the reason it was liked.

For the record it was not requested, it was imposed as a result of discussions with regard to complaints about hits and comments to photographs some years ago.

I was not entirely sure about the idea at the time and further discussions were held in an attempt to develop the idea to make it a little more user friendly, sadly nothing happened.

David,

Picking up on Bob's comment, the 30 degree's was considered a little ambiguous and was changed to be hopefully more understandable.

Bob,

Quantity and not Quality is also a guideline for some.
