Mr. Vloo:
Great, again.  Thanks.
A few questions from an old U.S. Navy sailor:
1. When entering port, "red, right, returning" was the marker buoy system I thought applied. I notice that many ships seem to have the green buoy to starboard. Just camera angle or river navigation rules?
2. I've noticed many tankers cleaning their hawsepipes when it doesn't seem that they have been at anchor (perhaps they have been and I didn't know it.).
3.  Why don't we hear many ships whistles indicating their piloting intentions?

These questions arise as the result of the fine detail of your video work.

Mr. Vloo:
Thanks again. Is there a reason that we don't hear many ships' whistles on shipspotting videos?  Is traffic computer controlled so that navigation intentions are not required audibly?
Keep up the good work.

Andrew:
Thanks for the data!  I'm new to this site (April, 2011) and my appreciation grows daily for the expertise, experience and wealth of knowledge available here. My seagoing days were in the 1950's on U.S. Navy vessels, but I've always loved ships and the sea and this site only adds to my enjoyment. How ships have changed.  I'm bewildered by the design of some of the "vehicle transports". They must be something to ride in a beam wind or sea. Cruise ships are almost frightening to behold. Beam-on they remind me of a hive of some sort - that or a new container vessel where the containers are placed in athwartship cells. At 76, I guess I'm not with it.
My thanks again,
Dave Pauly

Mr. Vloo:

Another enjoyable virtual ride! Especially appreciated the bows-on view of the M/V Bremen Express at the 04:30 mark. How many decks below the main deck are available for containers on a ship like that?  It staggers my imagination to think of 3000-6000 40 ft. containers on any ship.

Best wishes,

Mr. Vloo:

Thanks for a masterful job! I'm an American, but my greatgrandparents came from Rotterdam after a fire destroyed their business in the late 19th century. Must be my Dutch genes that make me appreciate your work so much.

With gratitude,

Dave Pauly
