CHINA's central Yangtze River city of Jiujiang has started a river-sea direct shipping route to Korea with the first batch of exports (http://en.eshiptrading.com) heading for Korea.

Xinhua reports the route will be a convenient and efficient means for exports to Korea, Japan and ASEAN from Jiangxi province, where the city is located.

A local government port administration authority was quoted as saying that the service reduces times of transit, reduces time and has slashed costs.

Jiujiang is the only river port in Jiangxi that offers shipping lines a direct outlet to the sea. More than 50 per cent of provincial exports and transshipments move through the port.
