Hi,
I have just had the information by one of my friends journalist.
A tug (British what it seems) named AQUARIUS who sank in the NNW of Ushant. The crew was winched up except one reported missing.
I find only two tug boat Brazilians of this name and no British.
Somebody has a photo of this tug.
Regards
Michel

Still not sure what vessel went down!. . .(sorry did'nt take French at school) . . can any one help please.
So sad if there was loss of life.

Just now heard a report with film on 'BBC WESTCOUNTRY NEWS' of the French rescue operation of the tug AQUARIUS.
The vessel was enroute from La Corunna to Plymouth which now saddens me even more to hear that all crew where from the Plymouth area where I work for a local Boat company. A French Coastguard Aircraft will still search for the missing crew member until dusk . . .Just hope that he is found my thoughts are with his family.

A BBC report is here:-

but even with the extra info I cannot identify the vessel.
Anybody else?

Thanks for posting photo Michel,a small vessel out in such terrible conditions,so so sad.

Is it perhaps this one:
Aquarius I 586 grt; built 1969. Current flag and owner unknown (Sold to undisclosed interests)
Sorry; forgot the IMO: 7519658

According to the French link posted by Michel yesterday, the vessel is only 20 metres long. As such, she will be under 100 gt, not have an IMO number, nor appear in registers. The photo link from Michel also confirms that she is a very small vessel.

Hi Kelvin
Probably not, the French report says she is around 20m., which means she may well be too small for an IMO number, which is why she can't be found in any databases like Equasis.

No, as you can read in the French report, the ship was built in 1965 as a harbor tug and was then used in Sweden. Recently, the ship was based in Gibraltar, where a company had bought it 2009 for wreck search. Philip Berriman was captain until 2010. The boat was sold two months ago after having been put up for sale on E-bay for 33,000 pounds (

Kelvin: The vessel you mention is AQUARIUS I. The one that sank was just AQUARIUS.

The press report quoted by Michael Floch is definitive. I only can add that it seems Aquarius had not AIS on board ,so no ais records of her stage at A Coru

For the record, AQUARIUS was ex-FROST ex-SILJAN 1 (SILJAN I?)
