Shipping News and information / Fish carrier LA MANCHE
« on: November 03, 2017, 08:23:38 AM »
Here is at least one former Russian fish carrier which seems to be well taken care of: https://www.marinelink.com/news/antarctic-delivers430912

The two krill harvesting ships mentioned are:

the huge ANTARCTIC SEA (ex-THORSHOVDI and originally the Dutch coaster VLIEBORG (IMO 9160358, built 1999)
the elderly trawler SAGA SEA (IMO 7390416, built 1974)

Tradewinds is reporting today that Shell will be bunkering the two new LNG-fuelled car carriers that VW will be chartering from Siem Car Carriers. Apparently they will be delivered in 2019, carry 4,500 cars and will be fitted with a 3,000 CBM LNG tank. VW first announced this charter in 2016.

Now here's the thing. I can't find these ships anywhere. Are these the second pair from Uljanik? (yardnos. 524/525). Those are listed in IHS for 2018 delivery first of all (but delay is the order of the day by now), carry 7,000 cars and are not fitted with DF engines.

Can anyone point me to the right ships?

Many thanks!

This was an amzing ship. She did well with 64 years of service and fondly remembered by Dutch naval enthousiasts. I hope she will be preserved. That would be a great excuse for a trip to wonderful Peru in the future!

Shipping News and information / Alert for Baltic shipspotters

Chinese navy group entering Baltic for excercises with the Russian navy. Includes a new Type 052D destroyer. I think those haven't been to the West yet (but I could be wrong):

The Russians are bringing out the PETR VELIKIY (world's greatest warship IMHO), and others.

Shipping News and information / New contracts Keppel yard Singapore

Including the conversion of the Arctic shuttle tanker TEMPERA into an FPSO. Earlier, some odd reports had surfaced suggesting that this ship was going for scrap. This seemed highly unlikely to me, as she is a very high spec ship of only 15 years old, not just some run-of-the-mill tankers. This latest news makes much more sense:

Must be costing them a fortune. I guess they are losing a lot of business this way.

It seems the venerable OLEANDER (IMO 8901406) is due to replaced in 2019 by a new ship:

Any ideas as to which yard is building the replacement?

Hi all,

Every Sunday evening, I used to check Paul Mason's Thames Shipping website for brokerage news: http://www.freewebs.com/paulmasonthamesshipping/index.htm

However, the site appears to be down, since more than a month, I think. Does anyone know what is going on?

Thanks and brgds.

Hi all,

According to a Norwegian forum, the TOISA PATROKLOS (IMO 9687057 or HHI yardnumber 2649) has now also possibly been cancelled. This comes after the confirmation of the cancellation of the large accomodation vessel EDDA FORTIS by Ostensjo at the same yard:

Shipping News and information / EDDA FORTIS cancelled?
« on: April 22, 2016, 12:11:49 PM »
Hi all,

Posting on a Norwegian forum seem to suggest that Ostensjo has cancelled the large accomodation vessel EDDA FORTIS (IMO 9689483) which they had on order at Hyundai. The vessel appears to be practically finished:

Does anyone know more about this?
