Yes friend Ralph that must be the boat because it matches everything.

I was struck by the tall yellow smokestack.

Then I followed it on Google earth and since 2015 it is anchored there, I thought it was abandoned.

But it does not continue as a training ship

Thank you very much my friend!

My pleasure, these are nice little puzzles to solve! Looks like she is in a stationary role now, just anchored but continuing as a training ship.

I just remembered this one, KAPITAN FELIX OCA ex-SEIUN MARU: https://www.shipspotting.com/photos/2462912

Looks like a match!

Ralph

oh ok, good that my info was still useful for you! Your mystery ship look more like a (former?) research or training vessel to me. Many lifeboats so maybe more likely to have been a training vessel.

This is the one I was thinking of, NORTHERN QUEEN ex-KOYO MARU (IMO 7709253), but I see now that it is not a total match:

There is this Norwegian guy in the Philippines who has a whole fleet of these old research vessels which he tries to sell as yachts/conversion opportunities. I wonder if this could be one of his. I am struggling to remember the names of his boats. When I do, I will post here.

Thank you Ralph, you are a great researcher. No matter how hard I looked, I couldn't find it.
Searched in S&P Maritime Portal, DHAFI is reported beached in Gadani on 03/03/2024, possibly towed by AL WAHSH (IMO 8017190). I will make a note of this in the March 2024 listing.
Now I have another mystery vessel, a container ship called GAP of 3,837 LDT beached on 01/03/2024 in Gadani, which I can't figure out who it might be. I hope you can find the solution.

Best,
Manuel

I merely asked around on the Ship Breaking Facebook group ;-)

Ralph

Hi Manuel,

I don't think it is DHAFIR as she is for sure much much smaller than 6,040LDT. She is only 336GT so there is no way she will be that large in LDT.

Best,
Ralph

this has been solved (sadly). DHAFI is ex-AL DHAFERAH ex-FULK AL SALAMAH (IMO 8509026) built 1987 as the yacht support vessel for the Omani Royal Yacht AL SAID. I had missed her scrap sale in early January.

Hi all,

In the latest weekly update of GMS, issued on 23 Feb 2024, there is a mention of a 6,040 LDT "Passenger" vessel called DHAFI which arrived at Gadani Beach on 19 Feb 2024. I can't seem to find this one anywhere. Can someone advise please?

Best regards,
Ralph

That must have been a huge job, congrats!

Do you have it as an Excel as well? Interested to know what the oldest larger vessel is in there.

Ralph

Hi David,

I wish I did, but her IMO is not out there yet, I can't find it in IHS either. Class societies have the ability to hide IMO numbers until the moment they see it fit to release them. Thankfully most of them don't do this, but I know that LR does it from time to time with large yacht projects at yards in Germany and the Netherlands.

Ralph

I was always surprised to see these ships were still around, but it seems that will come to an end now :-(
If I recall correctly, these three were still built for CP Ships before that company was taken over by Hapag-Lloyd.

Taiwanese ferry HO FU EXPRESS (1987, IMO 8613932, originally FERRY KUNIGA) has been beached at Chittagong on 12 March 2023 as EXPRESS 1 as per the latest GMS weekly update.

very sad indeed that FoF has finally closed. It was such a treasure trove! I learned about so many ferries and passenger ships through Micke's site. Fair play to him, he kept it up (with some short interruptions) for 26 years!

Ralph
