Works well for me.

The site standards say the following:

READ THIS CAREFULLY BEFORE UPLOADING TO THIS CATEGORY

The category is not to be treated as a repository for photos of distant vessels that would not meet site standards. Distant views where harbour features are a small part of the image may be considered for deletion. Members should understand the limitations of their camera.

USE THIS CATEGORY FOR

Photos with clearly visible Harbour features. This may include occupied/unoccupied berths and loading/unloading facilities. The harbour must be used by vessels that meet Shipspotting criteria

Photos of canal locks which meet the above criteria.

FOR THIS CATEGORY :-

DO NOT UPLOAD photos showing an area with ships anchored, but without visible harbour facilities. That type of photo should be placed in the Shipping (main) category, where views of more than one ship normally are placed. They must meet the requirement of this section of the FAQ titled Uploading Issues http://www.shipspotting.com/modules/x ... q/index.php?cat_id=16 (FIX)

DO NOT UPLOAD photos showing close-ups of lighthouses or beacons

DO NOT UPLOAD photos showing breakwaters with water or distant ships in the background, unless harbour features are clearly seen somewhere in the photo.

DO NOT UPLOAD photos of harbours for small yachts and boats used for recreational purposes. This includes Yacht Marinas.]

So the answer to the deletion one of your shots is given in the final sentence. And yet I would support those who would argue that for instance Monaco is not exactly a Marina, given the amount of sizeable yards that are for too large to enter a small British clay exporting port, of which a shot would qualify for inclusion. It sometimes seems that we are making life difficult for ourselves. Would there be a great opposition from members to delete the final four words of this section i.e. : This includes Yacht Marinas. ?

Thank you. So this is a marina then and not a port?

I while ago my photo has been deleted with explanation that it was a marina with yachts, not a harbour. Lately there have been a number of photos under "harbour overview" with yachts only or just a few fishing boats.
So what is the criteria for harbour vs marina?

There was also a cruise ship in the movie, not sure of the name, maybe Rush, played in the Caribbeans, in the movie it crashed into a pear spectacularly destroying some condos.

A horror move where a cable zips across the deck cutting everybody in half except a little girl.

Poseidon's adventure is another one, the ship encounters a rogue wave, capsizes.

Another cruise ship in a movie, I think "Britannic" where somebody places a number of explosives in a barrels throughout the ship and a team of deminers are dropped by parachute to rescue the ship and the passengers.

And of course Top Gun aircraft carriers, and ships from the movie Battleship.

Just some I can think of now.

Does the ShipXplorer site work well? I tried to register but never received a confirmation e-mail ( I checked my spam folder too). Also, when I enter a ship's name or IMO the answer is always that they can't find such ship/IMO.

Hello,

Thank you for contacting MarineTraffic Support and for providing your feedback regarding our websites new interface.

It has been carefully designed to reflect most of our users feedback over the years, however we understand that for some users, the previous interface was easier.

I have already forwarded your comments to our product team for consideration, rest assured that they will be considered.

Thank you for your honest opinion on how to make our website better.

Your thoughts truly matter to us.

Kind regards,

Nei"

I wander who the hack gave them feedback that led them to create crap like this.

Ridiculous!! I just looked at it...Somebody had to justify his/her existence. The ship symbols are so small and faint it is hard to see. Why @#$% with something that looked well?

Site related news, functions and modules / Can we have the pages back?
« on: September 26, 2023, 03:20:35 PM »
So I scroll, say 100 photos down. Then I click on a photo to see the larger version of it, click back to go back to the thumbnails and the photo I just viewed is now on the top of the page of thumbnails. I find it rather inconvenient because all the other previous photos are now not visible unless I go back to the main page and scroll down again. I preffered the previous version where we had pages.
Any thoughts?
