I was asked to give an interview today. I had no idea it would pass today. Thanks Trucker! :-)

I couldn't find it.

Can anybody tell me if some of the big tug/supply ships in St John's could act as icebreakers to help the situation in the Strait of Belle-Isle? Could they provide escort to a ferry?

Hi Dean. Do you have a link to that article or was it on tv/radio?

I found a tender document stating that the CCGS S LOUIS ST LAURENT will be refit in St John's until May 31st, 2013 at pier 17 and pier 11 for the remainder of the refit.

The next bit of information I found was that it had left St John's and heading toward Argentia in November, 2013.

I heard it was being refit but I don't know where.

Hi Snocky,

It is exceptional that the APOLLO is doing the CB to BS route. The ice buildup happens sooner than previous years and ST Barbe is impossible to get to. They decided to reroute to CB. One crossing was made from BS to CB on Sunday with the help of the CCGS HENRY LARSEN. We were about to leave on Monday to do the CB to BS crossing but it got cancelled because the LARSEN had to go to the Gulf of St. Lawrence.

The SIR ROBERT BOND is in drydock. The CCGS TERRY FOX and CCGS LOUIS S ST LAURENT being refit!

What a mess.

The APOLLO is doing the regular Blanc-Sablon to St Barbe crossings but the ice has been so bad in St Barbe, LABRADOR MARINE has decided to switch to Corner Brook. The APOLLO was able to cross from Blanc-Sablon to Corner Brook on Sunday crossings have been cancelled until we get the assistance of an icebreaker. The earliest we could leave is Friday.

Dean mentioned that the CCGS EDWARD CORNWALLIS is in Stephensville. Anybody know if that ship is able to carry our the task of breaking ice in the Strait of Belle Isle?

Hi Dean,

Thanks for the info.

Here is the tracking information from the OCEANEX website for their ships.

It's too bad. I was in St. John 's for three days. I could have taken pictures.

Hi all,

I went to St John 's (NL) for a few days and now I cannot return home. The ferry I was supposed to take got cancelled because the Coast Guard had to send its icebreakers elsewhere. I have been stuck here since Thursday.

There our hundreds of stranded passengers either in Blanc-Sablon or Corner Brook.

Does anyone have any information on the icebreakers positions? If you are aware of any movement of one of these ships going toward the Strait of Belle-Isle, please let me know.

Thank you
