The vehicles carrier "Courageous Ace" arrived in Auckland on the morning of 6 February and started discharging cargo. By the afternoon her ramp was up and there was a notification that the vessel was to be fumigated. At 3pm today, 9 February, the ramp was down again and she started reloading the vehicles that had previously been discharged.
Does this mean that the entire shipment had been rejected by MAF and she is haeding back to Japan?
She was also due to load coastal vehicles and call at Tauranga, Wellington, Lyttelton and Nelson.
Anyone in the Port or Shipping industry know what is going on?
She is now down to sail at midday on 10 February. Everything, both second hand and new is going back. Just watching all the new trucks and buses being reloaded......very strange.

The Courageous Ace has sailed from Auckland "For Orders" with an ETA of 26 February. She did not reload the large earthmoving equiptment, which is now in the middle of the wharf and covered with black tarpaulins. They are to be fumigated by a biosecurity company.

It looks like the "Tokyo Car" is the next vehicles carrier to be turned away from Ports of Auckland. She arrived at 7am on 11 February and didn't work that day. This morning they lined up all the coastal vehicles on the wharf ready for loading, but the ramp wasn't lowered. It's now 1.30pm and these vehicles have been placed back where they were taken from. She is now down to sail at 5pm to parts unknown, maybe back to Australia. :'(

The AIS for Courageous Ace has now changed from Brisbane to "destination port unknown", so she must not be welcome in Australia either.

AIS is now showing destination as Jakarta.

Marine Traffic now have AIS as back to Brisbane, due 23 February. She must either be going to steam around for a while or anchor, as she is just off the Brisbane coast.

Here is the article on the "Tokyo Car".

www.stuff.co.nz/business/farming/agribusiness/101400202/stink-bug-infestation-found-on-a-second-ship-carrying-cars-from-japan

The next vessel "Sepang Express" looks to be also turned away. She arrived 12 February and is awaiting biosecurity clearance. I don't think she will be cleared, as she is due to sail at midday today, not having worked.

This will be the third car carrier to be turned away.

It's confirmed that Sepang Express has been denied permission to unload and will sail at 3.30pm today for ?.

The Sepang Express is now heading for Brisbane.

It was earlier reported that Nordpacific would replace MSC Astrid. It now appears Nordpacific will only do one voyage and MSC Astrid will return to the Capricorn Service. Cape Marin is leaving the service and MSC Aditi will take her place

E.R. Calais is another vessel named to be joining the PAD Service. That only leaves one vessel yet to be named.

Article on car carriers Courageous Ace and Glovis Carvel. This must be costing a fortune and costs keep mounting up. Tokyo car has been in Auckland since 20 February. The ramp is lowered, cars are unloaded and the ramp is lifted again. This has been happening since last week. Still alot to be unloaded, departure maybe Thursday, but don't bet on it.

Holcim NZ's cement carrier "Milburn Carrier II" is about to commence her final tour of duty around the traps before heading to pastures new.

As I type, she's en route from Nelson to Lyttelton - arriving this afternoon, after which her schedule reads:
Lyttelton - dep 1730/15
Timaru - arr 0600/16, dep 0730/18
Wellington - arr 0730/19, dep 1730/22
Nelson - arr 0530/23, dep 1730/23
Dunedin - arr 0800/25, dep 2230/25
Lyttelton - arr 1500/26, dep 0930/29, ending a 30-year career on the NZ coast.

Wish she could call at my home port of Onehunga again one last time, but Ports of Auckland put the skids on that prospect sixteen months ago. :-(

As the MC2 sets sail from Lyttelton, at the same time a little further down the coast, "Buffalo" will be embarking on her maiden cargo-carrying voyage from Timaru, destinations Wellington and Lyttelton. Arrives in the capital on April 30.

Cheers,

JR

Car carriers in Port at Auckland are Trans Future 5 ETD 18 April approx, and Glovis Caravel ETD 21 April approx.

Vessels at anchor up to 21 April will be Adria Ace, Viking Amber, Trans Future 6, Palmela, Toreador, Hoegh Jeddah and Lake Taupo.

Other vessels are due to arrive after this date.

The Garnet Ace was also due to arrive, but I note she is sailing from Brisbane back to Japan, so maybe all NZ vehicles were offloaded in Brisbane for transhipment on a later vessel.

Title: Re: Updates on vessels and service changes to New Zealand in 2018

Hi all,

An era in NZ coastal shipping drew to a close today (May 5) with the departure of "Milburn Carrier II" from Wellington at 1400, sailing as "NACC Milburn" for Singapore under the Panamanian flag for new owners NovaAlgoma Cement Carriers.

From 1988 through until now, "Westport", "Golden Bay" and "MC2" were responsible for the vast majority of bulk cement distribution around our coastline. Indeed, the first- and second-mentioned became familiar sights around our shores since 1976 and 1979 respectively.

With "MC2"'s departure today, it means all three vessels have moved onto pastures new in the last twenty months. "Westport" now operates as "Fjordvik" for SMT Shipping, for whom she sails under the Bahamas flag carrying cement from Aalborg, Denmark, to locations around the country as well as further afield to Norway, Iceland, the Faroe Islands, Sweden and occasionally to England, Holland and Poland.

"Golden Bay" still operates under that name, but sports the flag of Belize on her transom as she distributes cement to the numerous nations located around the shores of the  Adriatic, Aegean, Ionian, Mediterranean and Tyrrhenian Seas.

Their successors on the local scene, "Aotearoa Chief" for Golden Bay Cement, and "Buffalo" for Holcim Cement, have big draughts to fill, make no mistake.

Come to think of it, "MC2"'s departure means that the NZ coastal shipping scene has lost five of its long-time bulk cargo distributors inside the last two years, with oil tankers "Torea" and "Kakariki" also having left these shores for pastures new in that period.

Cheers,

JR

I think Capitaine Tasman is coming in for Capitaine Cook, though change a little way off yet

The experience with Spirit of Colombo which is finally expected in Tauranga in next few days seems to have unnerved MSC and they have decided not to keep sister Spirit of Cape Town on the Kiwi service, her place next trip taken by Northern Decision.

Maersk to blank 9-12 sailings of the Northern Star NZ service from August.

The Baltic Purple due Tauranga soon, would be interested to know if this was originally ordered as one of Seatrades 'colour-class' but not taken up after problems with their Meridian NZ service not working. And now picked up by Baltic Reefers.

The Lica Maersk suffered mechanical issues at Lyttelton last Friday and she has remained alongside there since undergoing repairs. Fortuitously, the Cap Blanche had not not yet left the region after being displaced from the US West Coast/Australia so she arrived at Port Chalmers on 19.9 to load the Lica Maersk's cargo, afterwhich will head to Lyttelton to load distressed cargo there as well. Some of the Lyttelton containers were off the Lica Maersk, discharged after being loaded at earlier ports but shipping on the Cap Blanche will ensure they reach Asia a week earlier than if they had waited for the Maersk vessel to be repaired and resume service.

Title: Re: Updates on vessels and service changes to New Zealand in 2018

Morning Mike, after initially blanking Northern Star sailings for about 8 weeks from July, it was extended to the end of the year and now Maersk have decided there will be just the one loop based on the Southern Star string to which Napier was added. Auckland was one that will now miss out, along with Wellington and Nelson, while Timaru has become part of the USA OC1 service - the Maersk / Port Tauranga / Kotahi being the saviour for that  port.So now Southern STar is being re-tonnaged from the 3,800 TEU "L" Maersk's (although they probably rated now to over 4,000 TEU) to the 16 meter longer and 8 meter wider Hamburg-Sud Rio's of 5,900 TEU. Maersk will check again when the export season gets underway if these are sufficient enough. Currently the service is calling Napier first as the draft on the bigger ships is not as significant for the Napier call as it is after having taken on a big dairy cargo at Tauranga and calls afterwards, but this will change back in a few weeks. Also the OC1 service will now call Auckland before Tauranga on the northbound leg to USA, and I think will be th eonly Maersks ervice calling Auckland.
Cheers
Brent

Yes the reason for that Stephen is that Pacifica have lost one complete voyage and look like losing a second due to delays at Ferguson. The place is a complete shambles due to automation installation hindering work and staff burnout due to excessive hours. Not short fix in sight.

Hi Mike
She is on Maersk's Southern Star service. She had major mechanical issues which meant she was in Lyttelton from 15 September until 13 October as V874S/N. She sailed for Wellington on 17 October and then Port Chalmers 21 October, V875N. She has now arrived at anchor at Auckland and Maersk have her berthing 23.00 on 10 November as V876N. She then loads in Tauranga 17 November and heads for Tanjung Pelepas and Singapore. There are no voyages for he after her arrival in Singapore on 4 December.
Cheers

We really need a second coastal container vessel. We have just had the Kwangtung loading empty Wilson Cement containers in Lyttelton for Marsden Point. She then loaded 217 full Wilson Cement containers at Marsden Point and is unloading them in Auckland. She will then go out to anchor and the Shengking, which unloaded her Asian cargo and went to anchor will come back in and load the containers and take them to the South Island. The Kwangtung will then come back in again to complete discharge of her Asian cargo.
Really  ??? ??? ???
