It would appear that a number of changes are in the pipeline to the OC1 Service.

One line has advertised the Cap Bon (ex PSW), Cap Bianco, Cap Capricorn and Cap Beaufort (all ex OC1) Plus one unamed vessel as extra loaders for the North Asian Service.

Maersk Brani is also an extra loader for Maersk.

Cap Bon is to be replaced by Cap Pasado and also on the PSW Service Itaji Express is to be replaced by E.R. Cannes.

There have been suggestions that Hamburg-Sud will deploy more of the "Bahia" class on the OC1 Service but that has yet to be confirmed, but it would appear that there will definitely be changes.

Further to my earlier post, I have heard unofficially that the Bahia, Bahia Laura and Bahia Negra will be joining the OC1/Trident Service.

Maersk are now showing the Cap Jervis on the OC1 schedule.

That would leave only 2 of the original class on that service, so it would not be surprising if they are eventually replaced as well.

In addition Hamburg-Sud are using the Cap Pasado as an extra loader on the Asia service before she goes on the PSW service.

The plot thickens on the OC1 Service.

I know it was reported that the California Mercury was to be scrapped in January of the this year. When the NYK Veronica appeared in Dec I thought that's it, she's gone.
However on Sunday night there she was again coming around North Head and looking absolutely sparkling!
I worked on her yesterday morning and after talking to the Mate, the scrapping was cancelled as she had had her charter extended by another 15mths. So she went into drydock and has emerged looking a million dollars.
Completely repainted , new anti-fouling, decks all done and gear re-furbished.
It's quite amazing.
I am rapt, but I do find quite unbelievable for such a change of fortune.

Carpentars Amur River broke down off Papua New Guinea and has been replaced on the Asian service by Pac Antilla? a sister to Pac Aquila. Meanwhile Amur River has been repaired and is now chartered to ANL for their own Papua New Guinea service.

Maersk will replace the current the 4 NZ1 Asia ships of 4,200 TEU by 9 smaller vessels, operating separate North Island and South Island loops. They say these replacements will be cheaper to operate while still providing an increase in capacity. No vessel names yet.

This revised service will see one ship dropped from the Southern Star transtasman service between Australia and NZ, as once the new NZ1 is in place they will only be going as far south as Nelson. There will no longer be any direct Australian service by Maersk from Lyttelton (who still will have the competing ANL/MSC operation) or Port Chalmers.

Swires are transferring the "Challenger" class transtasman traders to the old Tasman Orient service to the Far East, with Tasman Provider replacing Pacific Independance which is leaving the service almost immediately.

Supposedly smaller vessels will replace the "Challengers" on the transtasman service and "Spliethoff" vessels mentioned.

There are also rumours they may take space on the new PDL service mentioned by Aaron F earlier in the thread using Forum Fiji and Capitaine Tasman, both from the "Kota R-" class of PDL owner PIL Singapore.

According to Swire's South East Asia schedule from New Zealand the "Pacific Explorer" will replace the "Pacific Independence". Maybe they are keeping the Tasman Provider on the Trans Tasman run?
Title: Re: Vessel that have visted NZ and are being replaced 2011

According to the initial announcement, Pacific Explorer will replace Pacific Independence for one voyage, after which the Tasman Provider will take over as per the following extract.

"Due to unforeseen circumstances we are off-hiring the “Pacific Independence” urgently in Singapore, and replacing her with the “Tasman Provider” beginning in New Zealand on 15th July.

As such we are having to change our Southbound schedule and cargo to Lae, Honiara, Fiji and New Zealand involving the below changes.

The Pacific Explorer 031S will now replace the Pacific Independence 1117S voyage and call Lae, Honiara, Lautoka and Suva, and omit Melbourne. The Pacific Harmony 019 will now call Darwin on the way to Port Moresby."

"Conti Chiwan" IMO 9057496 is replacing MSC Palermo.

The "Buxlink" will replace "Merkur Sky" on the Capricorn Service but it appears that this will be a positioning voyage only as MSC have advised that "Buxlink" will be going off service in Singapore.

So that will presumably mean that another replacement will be appearing at some point.

The "Bahia Castillo" IMO 9362401 will replace the "Cap Jervis" on the ECNA run.
It appears Bahia Castillo is replacing Cap Cleveland and Cap Jervis is being replaced by Bahia Negra. That leaves Cap Beaufort as the only one of that class remaining.

New and Newish Wallenius Wilhelmsen vehicle carriers coming to Auckland.

As Stephen has noted in a previous post, the Wilhelmsen RoRo "Tiger" IMO 9505039 is scheduled to arrive in Auckland on 21 Sept.
The "Tugela" IMO 9505065 is due in Auckland on 7 October. Both of these newbuilds will on their first visit here. HenkR has put a photo of the Tugela on the site in the last couple of days.Tugela looks to be a sister ship of the Tonsberg, one of the new series of larger  Mark 5 RoRo's that are being built at the  Mitsubishi Nagasaki yard. These have a higher ramp loading weight for heavy machinery than the normal PTCC's.
"Tonsberg", IMO 9515383 is due in Auckland in 25th October, "Carmen" IMO 950 5027 is due on 6 November. These two will be on their second visit here, and all 4 are 2011 deliveries.

regards,
Nigel

This means they will no longer take slots on Maersk's "Yellow Moon".

The Hansa Coburg is due in NZ at the start of October so I am guesing she is another for the CMA CGM ANZEX service.

Also the Jule arrived in Tauranga last week for bunkering. I have had a look but can not seem to find what ports she will be visiting. It states she will be a dedicated NZ to Papette service but no ports except Auckland have been mentioned.

More changes in the Pacific Island trades. Pacific Direct Line are still having mechanical trouble with "Jule". Therefore they have chartered space on Seatrade's  "Comoros Stream" IMO 9167801 for one voyage to Papeete. She will load in Auckland 18th September.
Reef Shipping's "Southern Reef",IMO 9141704, ex Ratstor, ex Forum Fiji, will start a service from Auckland to Lautoka, Suva, Vila, and Santo. This will commence from voyage 110 loading Auckland 5th November.
Before this on voyage 109, she will sail from Tauranga to Christmas Island, then Nuku'alofa and back to Tauranga to start voyage 110.

All did not go well for Pacific Direct Line and their charter of "Jule" IMO 9264245. She sailed from Auckland on 15th September for Singapore via Torres Strait.
The first replacement vessel, as mentioned above, was Seatrade's "Comoros Steam". The next vessel is "Atlantic Klipper" IMO 9454761. She is also a Seatrade vessel and loads in Auckland on 27th September for discharge in Papeete 8th October.
The Seatrade vessels load kiwifruit in Tauranga for Europe before loading in Auckland.
I don't think this will be a permanent arrangement as kiwifruit is only a seasonal cargo.

MSC are spoiling us for choice with more changes on the Capricorn Service

New vessels scheduled are MSC Nora, Maxine and the return of Antonia Schulte.

The Maxine appears to be the former APL Beijing and if that is the case then she would be the largest container ship to visit Napier with a capacity of over 5,000 TEU

It's a bit hard to work out which vessels are being replaced but it looks like Sydney, Italia and MSC Didem (which hasn't completed her first trip yet and appears to be a One-off)

News out this morning.
Maersk Line quits Ports of Auckland amid dispute
UPDATED11:16 AM Tuesday Dec 6, 2011

Ports of Auckland says it's lost a major shipping line service in the wake of an ongoing dispute with workers.

Maritime Union workers held a second 24-hour strike at the port yesterday, following a lock out by the company of 327 staff at the weekend.

So far the industrial dispute has affected the Bledisloe and Fergusson container terminals, and associated road and rail services.

Ports of Auckland says it will postpone today's mediation, now that Maersk Line has advised it will shift its Southern Star container shipping service from Auckland to Tauranga.

Ports of Auckland Chief Executive Tony Gibson said in a statement he was advised of the news by Maersk early this morning.

"Naturally, we are hugely disappointed," Mr Gibson said. "The Southern Star was one of Auckland's largest shipping services."

He says the port company will lose 52 ship calls, 82,500 containers (123,600 TEU), and nearly $20m in revenue annually.

"Maersk have explained to us that the possibility of further industrial unrest has been central to their decision to shift the service to Tauranga."

Mr Gibson said his worst fears had been realised.

"We had already warned the union that their strike action, during one of the busiest times in the shipping schedule, could cost Ports of Auckland a major customer and threaten jobs."

He says mediation will be postponed until later in the week, and he's called for the union to lift the strike notice it has in place for this Friday.

The service loss is effective from this week's vessel, the Euro Max voyage 126N, which will now call Tauranga on Saturday 10 December.

You really need to be a bit careful about posting such one sided articles.
I am a member of the union in question and can tell you that there is a lot more behind this than what Gibson is saying.
Do you really think Maersk is changing a large service with 6 DAYS notice. And then blaming us. Remember also Gibson was the previous MD of Maersk NZ.
I have been a member of this Union since Oct 2000 and in that time we have had 2 stoppages, of 2 days and one of 1 day. Does that indicate that we are disruptive. iIthink not.
And yet we are blamed for this.
Large coincidence wouldn't you say.
The fact is we are not going to put up with truck drivers doing our work, who are actually working for a company (Conlinxx,) which is 90% owned by the Port. We will also not put up with contract workers working for $15 per hr.
No point in comparing us with Tauranga, they would work for a bag of hooch.
We wont.
The real reason appears to be one of one of Maersk's largest customers (Fonterra) putting pressure to move to Tauranga.

Excuse me Mike, but don't have a go at me....
I have just copied the article as printed in the NZ Herald. If it is a one sided article you should take it up with them, or the authors of the other articles that have appeared in the news segment on this site.
They aren't my views, and I know there are two sides to every story, as you have outlined in your reply.

No sorry Steve, I'm not really having a go at you, it's just that I am really fed up with the very biased right wing reporting going on here, both in the press and on TV.
We are, in the public's view, the typical "lazy overpaid thieving wharfies", and it really pi***s me off.
It is far from the truth.
I've worked in this industry for 47yrs and only the last 11yrs as a wharfie, previous to that I was over 30yrs in shipping operations, and I kid you not, I never ever seen management like this lot.
So mate, I'm not having a go at you, I just want to see some balanced, unbiased, and sensible reporting.
You've worked in this industry, and I think you know, like me, that companies like Maersk don't change services as big as this one in 6 days.
