What is the considered for deletion (CFD) process?

In case Admins encounter photos that have been uploaded and do not meet the site standards (for a variety of reasons), the photo will be considered for deletion (CFD), whereby the admin will indicate the primary reason for potential deletion. Once a photo has entered the category: "Considered for deletion", it will only be visible for Admins and the photographer concerned.

When this is done, the photographer will automatically receive a private message regarding the change in status of his uploaded photo. The photographer will have the opportunity to react to the suggestion made by the admin. If he agrees, he can delete the shot himself, if not a discussion can start how to deal with the shot. As the discussion will be out of sight from the other users, it can take place in a quiet and friendly atmosphere, without external interference.

Depending on the reason for the possible deletion, the Admins can propose various solutions to prevent this, all to be discussed with the photographer and only applied with his permission.

Referring to the above: re: how much time will be given to re-upload a photograph marked in the CFD?

A photograph I posted on the evening (Vancouver, Canada) marked CFD because a slight obstruction is already deleted next morning and I finally receive an e-mail notification of the deletion later that day.

Why was I not given a chance to re-upload?

Referring back to my original Subject, getting a chance to re-upload: getting a heads up notice before deletion, I still have not received an answer.

I certainly will make sure I will post future photos at a accepted quality.

Also, I still would like to re-upload my photo of submarine Zeeleeuw with the member comments including that link as to why this Dutch Navy submarine was in Coruna, Spain in the first place. I'm sure your IT person can still recover these.

This will never be understood...

Dirk, you had so many of these cases when you upload a clearly pixelated or low quality photo that obviously breaks the site standards & which eventually gets deleted, yet nothing gets learned no matter how many times it will be repeating.
Why can't the initial photo be not pixelated / low quality but be original high quality one how it comes out of your camera? Unless you have something wrong with your camera settings or you purposefully compress your photos to be of low quality or you crop & upscale photos so that's why they are pixelated. You never answered anything regarding this.
And once your photo gets reported/CFDed, you DO get a notification about it which means you need to do something if you don't want to have it deleted. It's when you can reupload a better version of that photo, or you can notify right there in CFD comments that admins shouldn't hurry with deleting this because you're about to reupload a better version.  After all, CFDed photos don't get deleted the next minute they are reported.

@ Dennis:

I can only think of a some rule that once the photo gets reported/CFDed - a 1 week (or how much?) should be guaranteed that a photo will not be deleted. 1 week would be enough for member to act about it - either have discussion in CFD comments or reupload better version. After 1 week if nothing was reached or if the decision to delete didn't change, the admins would have a green light for deletion if it must be done.
But members must have in mind that when their photo is reported/CFDed - it's hidden from public view, it doesn't get new views/likes/comments, it can be only seen by uploader & admins.
In this case I certainly was not given any notice/given a chance to re-upload.

My photo may have been pixelated bur certainly was/is not out of focus.

After having seen some of my photographs showing up on Marine Traffic under the copyright name of a Tom McDonagh; (example East Isle 1585200), I have all my 10,000+ photos posted at a lower quality. btw. former Webmaster Ken Smith went after them and got that fixed!

What exactly are the rules about pixelation? How can I check this? What are the minimum requirements?

Can I still get a chance to re-upload and not lose the comments and links given by two members?

How much time was I given between time of deletion notice and actual deletion? Maybe a few hours overnight, when you don't consider in western Canada it is night time and most people are asleep....

Valuable comments deleted/lost included the interesting link as to why this Dutch submarine was in Coruna, Spain in the first place.

This member also took the time time to share this with me and everybody else on this site.

Please allow some reasonable time between deletion notice and actual deletion.

Thanks

Within hours after I posted a photo of submarine Zeeleeuw it was deleted along with all the valuable comments made by some of our members while others never even had a chance to see it.

allow members to re-upload a better version so possible valuabvle comments made byother members will get not lost as well.

Also please give members warning prior to deletion allowing to re-upload another, better pics.

By having deleted my photograph of BLUE PETER, which was the first and only one of the 1928-classic fin-tail vessel, I and for that matter all other members also lost the valuable information supplied by three members, who went out of their way by taking the time to contact me with their valuable information. I still would like to be able to read their three comments.

I think instead of willy-nilly having a posted photograph deleted, the member who posted it should be given a reasonable chance to re-upload a possibly better quality one.

So to do so, he could be given a personal message about a pending deletion, and be allowed to re-upload and also not automatically having wiped out any comments with valuable and interesting information about this vessel.

Is this too much to ask, especially after a succesfull re-upload, this this will make the deletion notice unneccssary.

I still want to re-upload it with a better quality one but want also actually see and  add the valuable comments made by these three members. Deleted photos are never totally deleted and IT should be able to retrieve and save my deleted photograph of 1928-vintage Blue Peter.

still unable to open/ recover last three messages of August 18 (2) and 19, 2023;

still unable to re-upload other photograph of  Blue Peter.

Still do not see my photo of Blue Peter that I want to re-upload.

How can I re-upload a photo of one that was deleted today?

How can I see which image was deleted so I can replace it with a better one?

How can I recover/Access the comments made to a photo that was deleted today,
including those made by Clive Harvey, Kyle Stubbs and George Schneider.

Would it be possible to get a forewarning notice that a photograph is going to be deleted
so the member can see which one; and can re-upload another one and also read and
recover all valuable comments made by fellow members?

Shipping News and information / Re: MILITARY IMO NUMBERS
« on: August 16, 2022, 04:32:12 PM »
at least some military/navy vessels do have IMO numbers:

here is one example:

13
How are IMO numbers generated?

How can a vessel built in 1973 have an IMO of 4500163?

https://www.shipspotting.com/photos/3458929

Compressed 10,000+ photos on this site in very same fashion; never had a complaint before ......

Marine Traffic is not Shipspotting, which I am referring to here ....

Site related news, functions and modules / deletion "pixilated" photos
« on: August 02, 2022, 02:27:32 PM »
https://www.shipspotting.com/photos/3452678

two of my photos posted of very rare bulker Rong An Cheng, IMO 9742950 (see link above)
are considered for deletion because the are "pixilated."

Especially considering the rarity of this vessel, it baffles me why these photos would have to
be deleted..... Way worse quality of way more common vessels are not deleted.
