Shipping News and information / IMO: 9575395
« on: May 31, 2010, 05:10:56 PM »
Does anybody out there know the correct name of the vessel that goes with the IMO: 9575395 ???.   I ask because I saw this vessel in the NE Lane of the English Channel at around 1640hrs local on 14.5.10 and she was showing on AIS Live as SEAAXE 4 which is think is only the name of the class of vessel and not the actual name of the vessel.  It is still showing as this on AIS Live this afternoon. Any help greatly appreciated. Rgds  jw..

Yesterday afternoon (20.04.10) I was ship-spotting at Folkestone when I saw in the distance coming up the channel in the NE lane at approx 1645hrs local. the FJELL    IMO:8766296  she was carrying what looked like a huge oil type platform. It looked strange because this cargo towered well above anything else about. Does anybody know, or have a picture, of this unusual cargo or any other info.  rgds jw..

Help and Advice / Help Required
« on: April 06, 2010, 06:06:48 PM »
I know it's a very long shot but I'm hoping someone out there can help me please.    I did a bit of ship-spotting today from the Leas at Folkestone and a very large Orange hulled tanker (fully laden) came up the North East lane not showing any AIS signal. The only other info I can gather is that there were three large white letters on the PORT side that I could see.  She must have come right up the channel and the only other relative info I can give is that I spotted at 1511 local MAERSK ROSYTH in the NE lane and at 1537 local URALS PRINCESS in the NE lane.  This unidentified tanker was between these two. Does anybody have a historical record that can come up with a name ????? I live in hope !!! Rgds. jw..

Shipping News and information / British Search and Rescue
« on: January 03, 2010, 06:08:58 PM »
Does anyone out there know the answer to this one ??? On 31.12.09 at around 0500 GMT the brand new yacht "Justice" foundered on Hook Sands off of Reculver in the Thames Estuary. Two persons on board. Margate All Weather Lifeboat attended together with a BELGIAN SAR HELICOPTER. Both persons rescued but yacht sank and subsequently washed up on the shore at Herne Bay. My question about all of this is where the hell is the BRITISH SAR HELICOPTER ???????????? Is it still at RAF Wattisham or gone somewhere else ??? As an aside the Coastguard spotter plane until very recently stationed at Manston Airport (overlooking the Channel) has been removed to Coventry Airport, how idiotic is that !!! You can't get much further from the sea if you tried. Are we as a country in such dire straits that we cannot provide a reliable Search and Rescue Service ???

Shipping News and information / BRITISH SAPPHIRE
« on: January 16, 2009, 08:00:10 PM »
Is there a 'sea dog' out there who can answer this for me please. This wednesday a large fully laden LNG namely BRITISH SAPPHIRE berthed at a U.K. terminal at around 0100 GMT. The others I have seen arrive always arrive in daylight hours with the assistance of 4 tugs. An arrival after dark seems very odd given the cargo. Would there have been a particular reason for this, could it be something to do with some form of time restraint as it appeared to arrive one tide late due to fog but I'm only guessing. Grateful for any good info !!!!
