At this time AIS-Live is showing TUG--ZEEPIA towing crane GPS APOLLO at 3.8k in position 51.29N 00.12E up river. I think this is the movement in order to recover the tug involved in this tragic accident. God rest his soul.  Rgds jw.

Site related news, functions and modules / Re: AIS Service
« on: June 22, 2011, 12:18:16 PM »
hi Phil, For my sins I do subscribe to aislive.com, as you say it's expensive but when I'm doing a bit of ship-spotting from the cliffs at Folkestone or anywhere else in the country it's good to be able to identify what I'm looking at. If this new service through this site doesn't take off perhaps they could look at a tie up with aislive.com, something similar to the arrangement that used to exist between the WSS and AISLIVE which was excellent for the year that I had it and I must say very reasonably priced. I never did get to the bottom of why it all stopped. Rgds jw

Trip reports / Re: Shipspotting Rotterdam 10-04-2011 Video
« on: April 17, 2011, 11:49:16 AM »
Hello Fred, The real answer to your question is not very close. I am not into photography and use my lap-top with AIS live and a very good pair of binoculars (18x50). When the weather is very good I can see everything that is coming up the North East Lane which is probably some 25 miles off. If the weather is not good you can see absolutely nothing. I am into just ship-spotting, going back to my childhood when it was steam train spotting. From where I sit it is probably 300 to 400 feet above sea level, that's a rough guess. Unfortunately it would be no good for your type of spotting. Rgds jw.. :) :)
