how long can be the name in an AIS system??
On AIS you read the DC VLAANDER 3000 and correct vessel name is DC VLAANDEREN 3000

hope you al understand what I try to say because I can't understand my own words sometimes.

Stevo, the AIS system relies on ship-board personnel inputting the ship details correctly. Hence, there are sometimes spelling mistakes and various data transmission errors.

By AIS technical standard (ITU 1371) it could be not more than 20 ASCII characters.

Just as well, then, that FLIEGERKOSMONAUT DER DDR SIGMUND JAHN or PYATIDYESYATILYETIYE SOVIETSKOY GRUZII are no longer around!
