From time to time, I'd like to share an interesting photograph from Shipspotting.com in Twitter. However, the site lacks the function to generate a "Twitter Card":

https://developer.twitter.com/en/docs/twitter-for-websites/cards/overview/abouts-cards

Since a bare link does not attract attention to the tweet as much as visual content, some Twitter users include (a low-resolution version of) the photograph in their tweet. However, this is problematic from copyright point of view.

Would it be possible to include the necessary metadata to the photograph pages so that including a link to Shipspotting.com would generate, say, a Summary Card:

https://developer.twitter.com/en/docs/twitter-for-websites/cards/overview/summary-card-with-large-image

After all, we already have the thumbnail code generator for websites and forums.

As some of you might know, I am an editor in the English Wikipedia. In addition to my other activities I try to maintain an up-to-date list of ships built at Vuosaari Shipyard, which can be found at:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vuosaari_shipyard#Ships_built_in_Vuosaari

I am looking for photographs of the ships to be used in the list (see the examples) and later in the articles about the individual ships. Before contacting anyone personally I decided to post the request here as there are quite many photographs that I need.

So, if you have a good photograph of any of the ships listed in the article, would you like to release it under a free licence (e.g. Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 3.0 Unported) so that it could be used in the article? If you would like to contribute to the free encyclopedia, drop me a message either using the forum messaging system or by e-mail ([email protected]) and I'll send you further instructions.

Basically the easiest way is to send me an e-mail with a declaration of consent and a link to the specific photograph here at ShipSpotting.com. I will then upload it to Wikimedia Commons with necessary licence details and attributions, forward the DoC to the copyright team, and add the picture to the ship list. After that I will notify you, so you can go and check if I have attributed you correctly. Of course you can upload the photos and add them to the article by yourself as well.

If I get multiple photographs of the same ship, I will quite likely upload only one to the Commons and delete the others along with the declarations of consents. Although in a perfect world every photograph would be available under a free licence, I prefer to publically release only the photographs I am going to use right away. If I don't get photographs with this post, I will start harassing contacting users with suitable photographs personally.

Anyway, if you have any questions regarding anything, feel free to ask. Thank you in advance for your contributions.

Shipping News and information / Mystery vessels

Do you know what vessels these are:

The caption says "Pump boats in Haikou Harbour, Hainan Province, People's Republic of China", but they are definitely not pump boats. Dredgers?

Shipping News and information / Searching for Lister (IMO 7924176)
« on: December 11, 2011, 10:48:29 AM »
I've been trying to track down LISTER (ex-VIKLA, ex-VIKLAND), an 8,288 DWT product tanker built in 1982 (Valmet Oy, Vuosaari shipyard, Finland).

http://www.shipspotting.com/gallery/photo_search.php?imo=7924176

According to Equasis she was detained in Gibraltar for 76 days and later put on auction. Equasis further states that she was sold to an undisclosed buyer in 2010 and is currently "in service/commission" with an unknown flag. The promising Marinetraffic links in Google end up in an unrelated bulk carrier.

I would suspect that she has been sold for recycling considering the age and condition of the vessel, but I could not find any definite proof.

Does anyone here have any idea where this former Neste/Fortum tanker ended up? I would like to keep the list of ships built in Vuosaari up-to-date.
