What's happened at Middlesbrough? You used to be able to visit PD Ports website and get a very good list of ships due etc with all relevant details. Now the website has changed completely and I cannot find any shipping info at all. Can any Teesider enlighten me please?

Shipping News and information / Laid up Shipping
« on: August 09, 2017, 06:34:47 PM »
Just a passing thought but I wonder if it would be possible to set up a section regarding ships laid up, there are seven or eight ORSV's currently laid up in Hull and Goole. Are there any laid up elsewhere? I spotted a couple of reefers laid up nr Falmouth about 2 yrs ago, and a pair  of ORSV's at Blyth a year or so ago. Comments please.

I am considering a run to Canvey Island to indulge in a days shipspotting. Can anyone advise re best place to park up etc, when is the best time to see ships bound for London Gateway, and also the tanker berths? I've looked on Google Earth and the area looks quite built up, are there any recommended spots? Where do the local Shipspotters go?

Trip reports / Kings Lynn and Wisbech
« on: July 27, 2016, 07:31:17 PM »
Could anyone advise me as to the best places for ship photography at Kings Lynn and Wisbech? I've had a look on Google Earth at Wisbech and there would appear to be a public road on the opposite bank to the berths, but at Kings Lynn I can't make out whether there's a road/footpath or private lane which seems to be opposite a berth on the river. I don't think it would be possible to photo ships in the Docks at KL but am willing to be told otherwise.Thanx.

I am thinking of going to Malta for a week for my 60th. Has anyone got any recommendations for a Hotel, preferably overlooking the Harbour? Also, are there many places where it is possible to photograph ships in dry-docks etc. Thanx in anticipation.

Trip reports / Shipspotting at Goole
« on: February 09, 2016, 04:08:32 PM »
Had a couple of hours at Goole this a.m., got some nice pics of Fast Julia, Sandal, and Carolin G in West Dock, Antonia and Johanna Desiree in Aldam Dock and Tharsis on the Steel berth. Not a bad day apart from ABP having erected a nice shiny new security fence on top of the West Dock wall on Aire Street meaning you now have to poke the camera lens between the fence palings which is not an ideal situation. I've no doubt they will quote the usual elf'n'safety/security argument but I've been going to Goole for 32yrs and nothing much seems to have changed to warrant the fence.

On 02.04.2003 I spotted the good ship Borneo, IMO 9183465, at Middlesbrough. She was flying the Dutch flag, but I was unable to read her P.o.R. I hope a fellow spotter can supply me with the details, thanx in anticipation.

Help and Advice / Russian ships Po R
« on: November 11, 2015, 07:41:20 PM »
Whilst rummaging in the attic I found about 200 slides of ships taken in or near Goole in the late 80's early 90's. I have identified all of them bar three, these being Angayafold IMO 7027679, Andrey Ivanov IMO 7038111, and Belomorye IMO 7038147. Does anyone know where these three ships were registered at that time? They were all Russian flagged, hammer & sickle on the funnel, and were engaged in the timber trade. Thanx in advance and anticipation.

Shipping News and information / Marikis T
« on: August 09, 2015, 03:24:36 PM »
I have a request that I feel sure will be easily answered by a knowledgable member of this site. On the 15th Auust 2001 I photographed a bulk carrier leaving the River Tees from Sth Gare, Middlesbrough, UK. I have a poor quality picture of the vessel, which I have recorded as Marikis T, PoR Limassol, Cyprus, IMO not known. She is a five hatch bulker, with four deck cranes, engine and accom all aft. She had a grey hull, white upperworks, and a yellow funnel bearing a blue and white flag consisting of two horizontal blue bands with a central white band with a letter or anchor design in the centre. I have searched the internet and all the usual sites etc but to no avail. I would greatly appreciate any info, photos etc. I have attached the photo I took.Thanx.

Trip reports / Ouse/Trent shipspotting
« on: December 17, 2014, 04:48:17 PM »
Can anyone out there help? I am a keen shipspotter living in sunny Sth Yorks. I have photographed hundreds of ships in the Humber area but due to work commitments I have been unable to pick and choose the time of day when I could do this. I am now retired and would like to take more shots of ships underway in the Trent and Ouse. I consult the ABP website and under the heading 'planned voyages' all the info displayed merely states 'on passage' followed by a time/date. Does anyone know how to translate this info into real time so that I can be on the river bank at Swinefleet or Burton Stather at the appropriate time/

Help and Advice / m/v Anne, IMO 7924334
« on: October 26, 2014, 01:47:18 PM »
I hope someone can help, in the early to mid eighties I photographed a ship named Anda at Goole, I have no record of the date. She was regd at Haren-Ems in Germany, IMO 7924334. I photographed the same ship again passing Burton-Stather on the River Trent, she was then carrying the name 'Anne'. I have no record of the date but neither did I record her P.o.R. Can anyone help me ascertain her P.o.R please? I believe she is still operating under the name 'Gule' Thanx

Trip reports / Thames ship spotting
« on: June 05, 2014, 06:29:20 PM »
Does anyone know of a spot on the Thames river bank near a place called Cliffe just outside Gravesend? I have looked on Google earth for such a place but none is apparent. I think there must be such a place because I have seen videos by a chap going by the name of Ted Ingham and some of them were obviously taken from the river bank.

Help and Advice / Scanning
« on: June 10, 2013, 08:16:48 PM »
Whilst spoting at South Gare, Middlesbrough, last week I heard, via my trusty Uniden Bearcat scanner, a bit of conversation between a pilot and Tees VTS to the effect that they were expecting to be using a digital radio system in 'a couple of weeks' in place of the current analogue system. The pilot and VTS were wondering whether there would be a short timespan when both systems would run alongside each other before going totally digital. Does anyone out there know anything about this? If they do go digital will I have to buy a new digital scanner? Does such a thing exist? I dunno.
