Title: Storm Doris: Ro-ro Britannia Seaways leaves her berth with 2 tugs, 23 February
Post by: chrisg46 on February 23, 2017, 02:02:32 PM
Ro-ro Ferries like Britannia Seaways are designed to carry out all their manoeuvres under their own power, using their powerful bowthrusters and twin engines, and Becker rudders to control propeller thrust.

But on some rare occasions, the master might need to engage tugs to help the ship with close quarters control - and this morning, February 23rd, with Storm Doris coming in, was one of those.

Down here at Southampton, Suzuka Express and Asian Breeze both got as far as Cowes and then turned around to anchorages.   Red Jet fast ferries cancelled this morning and Southsea - Ryde hovercraft sailings cancelled.
