Shipping News and information / Re: El. Venizelos fire
« on: August 29, 2018, 04:10:01 PM »
She is now moored in a cruise ship terminal at Piraeus port. She has developed a slight list because of the water poored to extinguish the fire. Report are that the fire is still going at the no. 3 compartment of deck 1. A lot of firefighting tugs and pollution management vessels can be seen all around her.

Scale Models / Re: Scale modeling from scratch.

Hello Flo!

Those are just... perfect! That is what I was talking about when I started this forum.
Building modern (and classic) cruise ships which aren't available on the market.
Thanks very much for posting these pics!
Would you mind answering some questions? Did you use some kind of drawings as a guide or just photos? Are these you first attempts on scratch builds or have you started with something easier? And, finaly, how long does building such a model takes you?

Thanks again! Regards Nick.

Pieter and Denis thanks a lot!

I was thinking building the SS France, the 60's oceanliner, but I guess her hull is not so simple for an amateur like me.
I' ll just have to build some easier designs first.

Regards, Nick!

Hi Denis!

That is really good! Did you use some kind of blueprints or drawings, or just photos?
Also I'm interested in the technique of making a piece (or many pieces) of cartboard into such a nice model!

Regrads Nick!

Hello all!
I recently read some comments posted on another topic about making scale models from scratch. How do you do that? Do you use plastic or wood? I really could use some ideas.

Even though I've built some model kits availlable on the market I'm interested on bulding some models that cannot be found on the market.

Regards Nick!

Scale Models / Re: Calling all Ocean Liner fans!

Hello there!

This is indeed a really nice topic. I guess the manufacturers, mostly, go for the more publicly known ocean liners, such as RMS Titanic, RMS QM2, RMS QE2, etc... Even though those are remarkable choises, they've become somewhat... common. I, myself, have made a 1/350 model of the QM2, and the detail is really good, but I'd really prefer I had more choises.
My list would be:
SS United States
RMS Queen Mary
SS Normandie
SS Canberra
and off course SS France/Norway.
There are definatelly a lot more....

Regards, Nick!

Help and Advice / Re: Where are best ship spotting places in Greece?
« on: March 20, 2010, 11:50:02 AM »
Dear Oldkayaker,

There sure are a lot of interesting places for shipspotters in Grecce. I wont suggest anything different from the previous spotters. Since I live in Athens, I would too, reccomend the port of Piraeus and the surounding ports (Eleusis, Perama, Keratsini, Salamina) for great shipspotting. On the other hand, if you or your friends are interested in Cruise ships, the best time of the year to come to Piraeus would be between May and October, which is the cruising season for the region. Durind these months you can spot great and large cruise ships :-D, of Celebrity, Costa, MSC, NCL, RCI, Cunard, Aida and much more. Unfortunately, , during the rest of the year cruise ship visits are minimum with the exception of Louis Cruise Line ships.

Regards Nick K.
