Hi - I saw the STOLT BOBCAT in the Bosphorus June 29th 2014 - photo attached

Peter the CENTAURUS (IMO 9433755) came into Vittoria Dock 21/11 and returned to the Bar anchorage 22/11. Departure - initially with local tugs - is reportedly due to happen tomorrow (24/11) morning tide. Its dangerous to presume but presumably he Centaurus will do the onward tow. Where to ???

hello Russell

Did you book for Istanbul this May / June ?

I have been going there annually since 1998, briefly the favourite spotting points are

The tea gardens in front of the Topkapi Palace near Eminonu ferry berths
On the Asian side, Kandili just to the south of the ferry berth (mornings)
Back in Europe, opposite Kandili, in front of the Rumeli Hisari castle (afternoons)
Near to the Black Sea entrance, Rumeli Kavagi, in the car park of the restaurant near the radar tower
(on a hot day you might get a free bottle of water !)

Send me a private message for more infos.

Regards, Burns of the Bosphorus

Would just like to point out that the PWR posting of the ROCKVILLE (photo : C Hill) on this website has been given an incorrect caption by admin. I have added a note to that page with more info.

Hello Yvon (2)

John Monks owned another Rockville that was built in 1922 as Orenie and became Rockville in 1932. Her official number was 1144725 and she was broken up in 1952. I think it will be difficult to locate a photo of this earlier vessel but I shall try.

It would seem quite likely that this was the vessel that visited Britanny in the 30's.

With very few exceptions, ships berthed in EU ports are not allowed to use their HFO engines in port, it is only permitted to use ultra low sulphur diesel for power generation.

Hi Russell,

Many thanks for your report, very interesting and informative. I have used the passenger-only ferry from Piraeus many times but on each visit there seem to be fewer sailings. I have found this timetable http://www.salamina.gr/Default.aspx?tabid=492&language=en-US but cannot guarantee the current accuracy of it ! Hope this is useful,

best regards
Neil

Greetings,

Just have a quick question, I've noticed some of the vessels particularly those associated with singapore contain the acronym EPBGB. If it is possible it would be most appreciated to attain a simple or detailed description of what EPBGB stands for and it's meaning. Any assistance offered here is highly appreciated. Thank you so much in advance.

Regards,
Nicolei

Hello Nicolei,
interesting question you asked (if not in right forum thread). I found the acronym refers to East(ern) Pilot Boarding Ground "B" (there is also a EPGB"A"). There is a useful map of the anchorages here www.almarine.com.sg/aplchart.php although it seems that locally the acronym commences with the "P" for Pilot.

Regards, Neil
