FWIW, the Nisshin Maru(IMO 8705292) of "Whale Wars" fame is actually the fourth such named vessel, but, against traditional Japanese ship naming traditions, is not labeled as such, due to the Japanese character for "4" too similarly resembling the character for death.

Superstitions abound amongst sailors...

     if youre looking for passenger ships, Revell Germany also makes a 1/400 kit of the Queen Mary 2, and just last year released a 1/400 AIDAdiva/bella/luna that have both recieved good reviews. im not sure your location but they can be had for roughly $80-$120 USD, depending on where you buy them from.

     ive built the QM2 kit and i can personally attest that it is an extremely well thought out and executed kit, and everything fit together quite well, with very very little trimming and shimming needed. todays models are made with precision molds that are cut by machine, unlike the kits of old....
 i havent built the AIDA yet, but i have no reason to believe its quality is anything below the QM. 

if you want kits other than just pax boats, just google "1/400 plastic ship kits" and youll find plenty...

     and nicely done with Finnjet. she was quite a lady and will not soon be forgotten
ive built that kit before, and im sure we both share a mutual frustration with some of the part fitment lol

although, Maersk has, at times, been known to go against their traditional naming method. let us not forget the 2000-built A.P. Moller:

no, chances are hes a Filipino or Indian national, as is typical nowadays on PCTC's lol

as random as all these changes may seem, you have to remember that ships are commerce based vehicles, and as such they follow the market, so perhaps some cargo has been switched to a different buyer, or more cargo is now requiring shipment short-notice, and the Florida Highway was deemed by the Ship's Agent as the one to do the job. you never know.

what i do know, is that despite the seemingly random port changes mid-voyage, i can almost guarantee that the Master of this particular ship isn't making any sort of executive decisions concerning vessel routing and port calls. whats more likely is that hes getting fax's and email's from his bosses at the company telling him that before going to Baltimore, he now has to re-formulate his passage plan to include a stop in Brunswick.

perhaps she was sheltering near the island from weather?

or maybe the crew had to board the PoD and make adjustments to the towing bridle, or perhaps adjust her trim, so they wanted to get out of the shipping lane and head somewhere where they could sail in circles for a while?

Eide Fighter's AIS is currently showing her in the Channel with a destination of Tuzla, Turkey.

Tuzla is closer to Aliaga than Aliaga is to Suez, so its looking like shes going to meet her maker at the hands of the Ottomans i guess.

i can only imagine that standing on the bridge wing while the ship is making 30+ knots must be quite an experience(although im sure they never get a chance to see that kind of speed nowadays)

these boats just look as if they want to run as fast as they can to the next port and buck heavy seas with glee.

although it might be necessary to re-power or otherwise alter their drivetrain to make them last in this market, it will still be a small shame to lose speed demons like these ladies. i mean, dont they top out at something like 36.5 knots??!! thats incredible to me and its amazing that even with 300 tons/day fuel consumption these six ships made it off the drawing boards and into reality.

and now Maersk is stuck with them.

my intent with this thread was never to spread tabloid slander, or to dish out media hullaballoo. i was only trying to share a piece of information i had come across that i had yet to see shared here.

i always dreamed as a young boy of being a cruise ship officer, and when something like this happens, something that is (in theory) never supposed to happen, it grabs any and all of my attention when new pieces of information come to light.

all i was trying to say is this: REGARDLESS of whether or not the captain has ever actually consumed any illicit drugs, the public, by way of the media, are now potentially going to label him a user, and with everything else he has going on right now, i cant imagine something like that being anything but negative, regradless of the truth.

i have MUCH respect for the masters of all the different types of vessels that roam the seas of our blue planet, yourself included. so i cant help but be morbidly fascinated when one of them seemingly abandons those duties.
