Pretty misleading title to this first article-"objects" include a container identified by TOTE as coming from El Faro and an oil slick. Pretty clearly a debris field.  :(

Shipping News and information / Re: Saga Rose to be retired

Saga Rose is far from the scrappers. A French group is interested in her, and they have the financial backing to pull it off. Also, Saga Holidays seems to be open to seeing her preserved. So she is far from lost.

Huddell left the reserve fleet today for preparations for her tow to Greece. That was fast!

http://www.marad.dot.gov/Ship%20Disposal/Huddell%20Leaves.html

In other news, six now decommissioned MARAD ships will soon be scrapped. Courier, American Explorer, Truckee, Kalamazoo, Nitro and Rigel, and have been sold for scrap to Southern Scrap Material, Bay Bridge Enterprises, Esco Marine and All star Metals respectively. The ships were sold for between $660,000 and $1.5 million.

Bad news for ship lovers, now the scrappers are buying the ships instead of charging for their disposal.  :-(

Shipping News and information / MV New Flamenco

Probably a dumb question, but will the 1972-built MV New Flamenco be affected by SOLAS 2010? If so, is it likely her owners will upgrade her to the new standards? Sorry for the oddball question, but I love this ship.

If their actions bring attention to global warming, then I say go for it.

I would be happy to team up, though you are far ahead of me in terms of the amount of research done!

Scale Models / Emma Maersk @ 1/700
« on: August 05, 2007, 05:42:49 PM »
Does anyone think it would be possible to find plans/drawings of Emma Maersk? My model will be waterlined (I couldn't get anthing for below the waterline even if I wanted to...) The most important thing at the moment is an overhead view of the ship, showing the layout of the deck and superstructure. Thanks in advance.
