Shipping News and information / Re: Marine Atlantic aquires 2 ships

Marine Atlantic's biggest problem doesn't lie in the vessels themselves, but with the management that makes the decisions on how to operate them. The Atlantic Vision might have had it's share of problems, but it's a big, efficient, modern ship and can carry many more vehicles than the other ferries currently running. Port aux Basques and North Sydney both have their challenges as far as navigation is concerned, and any time an incident occurred, it was quickly resolved by the skilled crew of the Atlantic Vision.

Maybe instead of bringing more European vessels to Canada, the money would be better spent in our own shipyards supporting our own struggling workforce. This, in my opinion, would be the best solution. Purpose-built ships designed and constructed in Canada for Canadian waters.

Just my two cents,
Allan

Thanks for that, Fred. I'm from Nova Scotia and I didn't even know about this  :-o

That could have easily been so much worse. Doesn't look good for the Leeswig crew.

Best wishes,

I've only been here a short while, but Derek accepted and encouraged me, and so many other members, to keep contributing to the site and increasing the repertoire of photographs of ships all over the world.

Best wishes for a healthy new year,
Get well soon Derek!

The dragger Pubnico Explorer sank in rough seas today...

From Nova News Now

 By Tina Comeau

Transcontinental Media

A rescue operation was taking place today after a fishing dragger started taking on water off Port Maitland and reportedly sank this morning about15 nautical miles northwest of Yarmouth.

The fishing vessel was en route to Meteghan.

Major James Simiana, with the Joint Task Force Atlantic public affairs, said earlier this afternoon that three people have been picked up from a life raft and transferred onto the Coast Guard cutter Westport, which is now on its way to Meteghan.

The search was still on for the vessel

Really nice pictures Jean! I especially liked the ones from Glace Bay, Cheticamp, Margaree Harbour etc. They're all in my backyard so to speak!

Best wishes,
Allan

I mean a vessel which is moved by sails instead of an engine.

No problem Steve. I thought along those lines when my first Sailboat picture was taken down too.

Best wishes,
