Shipping News and information / 5 Minesweepers along English Channel
« on: April 17, 2008, 07:45:53 PM »
Yesterday a group of minesweepers passed west through the channel and rounded Lands End heading north?
Vessels were HMS Roebuck, HMS Hurworth, Primula, Weilheim and Imanta.
Anybody know where they were going, please?
Cheers
John

Hi Bob,
I bought an SR161 AIS receiver a year ago and by using it with ShipPlotter I can pick up about 15-20nm radius from home. The main point being that apart from getting a live picture of my locality, by using the share feature I can get live positions from other users around Europe. I think the cost was about $150. Hope this helps.
Regards,
John

Hi All
I use Shipplotter and an AIS receiver which gives me local coverage, but only up to a range of 20 miles or so. The'share' setting allows other users to share my signals and me to receive theirs.
Further to the point made earlier about Lloyds-Fairplay subscriptions - there are obviously only interested in the commercial market and will do all they can to discourage 'hobbyists'. Maybe they should look at whats happened to the recording industry who have been forced to lower their CD/DVD prices because of the competition from P2P sites.
Good luck to the new AIS competition - we wish you well. If I had the money to set up your system, I gladly would.
Regards
John :-)

Hi Charles,
I took this photo this morning at Teignmouth and to be honest, until you pointed it out, I hadn't noticed the damage! Senility, I guess or perhaps the need for stronger glasses?
I will try and find out whether the damage occurred in Teignmouth (She sailed this afternoon), but as she arrived in the dark, maybe no one will admit anything!
Regards
John :-?
