Shipping News and information / Tanker discharge rates
« on: April 23, 2018, 11:12:14 PM »
I am in the process of doing some research for a massive bunch of tankers I have taken photo's of in the past year or so. I was wanting to know if anyone knew of a website where I can find out information about cargo capacities and more importantly pump rates. I know a lot of class societies have information about liquid capacity but I am struggling to find anywhere that has information about the amount of cargo the ship can discharge.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I have always wondered why this has not happened before but how easy would it be to make sub categories for the Chemical Tanker category on this site? even if it was like the subcategories we have for General Cargo vessels where there is a weight limit and build year it would be good. There are so many ships uploaded every day into this category and for myself a lot of them I have no interest in but still have to scroll through them. Small coastal tankers like the Lerik could easily be filtered out if there was a category say 10000grt.
Anyway just an idea, it would be interesting to see what everyone else thinks.

I would like to highlight a issue I have come across when perusing the internet. There is a eBay member who is listing photo's taken from this site and is selling them as 6x4 prints. I know this site has a rule about copyright but is there something we can do to stop this sort of thing happening? I know a few people put watermarks on the bottom of prints but can we somehow increase the security on this site like Flickr does and you need to contact the photographer to get a copy of a photo.
I have no problem sharing images for others to enjoy or to help fill in some gaps in databases but i draw a line with people trying to profit from my photos.

I am hoping there is someone in Himeji Japan that can get a picture of the Green Hope arriving or alongside with her missing her no 4 cargo crane. She sailed from Tauranga this morning and I missed her but would like a shot of her without it for my collection. she is due in Japan around the 6/1/14. Any help would be appreciated.

Shipping News and information / Panama canal area ship photography
« on: September 07, 2012, 06:59:19 AM »
I am not sure if this has been discussed before, if so please just drop the link in and I will have a read. I am due to fly to Panama City in a few weeks and want to fit in a couple of days ship photographing while I'm there. I know there is a lookout at the Panama canal which is good for seeing ships but I was hoping there would be some other places along the canal to spot them from. Also if the lookout at the Miraflores Lock (I think that is where the lookout is) is the easiest location does anyone know if there are any buses that go on a route there or if taxi's will take tourists there?

Shipping News and information / TPC Bulker shipping
« on: July 03, 2012, 07:37:50 AM »
Does anyone know what is happening to TPC Bulk shipping? Last week Tonyd uploaded a picture of the Gisborne (ex TPC Gisborne, IMO 9460265) and I also see Auckland is expecting the Lyttelton (ex TPC Lyttelton, IMO 9460277) It seems strange that they would sell the newer vessels in the fleet rather than the older ones. It reminds me of Dorval Shipping who recently went into receivership and most of the fleet was renamed by new owners.

Help and Advice / Miramar Ship Index for Mac
« on: April 16, 2012, 06:47:00 AM »
Hello,

Does anyone know how to make the Miramar Ship Index work on a Mac? I have it on disk and it uses MS Access but Mac's cant run that programme. I don't really want to have to pay a subscription as the disk has all the information I need on it.

I have a collection of bulkers that I am trying to gather information on. I use contianershipinfo.com to gather information about the container vessels I have and find it very useful but I want to know if there is a website out there that can do the same thing for bulker? I have google searched it but nothing seems to come up. Does anyone know of any sites out there?

I may have spelt some of these names wrong and that might explain why I can not find them in Miramar but if anyone can help it would be amazing.

The P&O cruise ship Pacific Sun has arrived in Auckland after experiencing 7 metre swells and 50 knot winds in which 42 passengers were injured.

The boat rolled sharply in the heavy seas, caused by the same storm that hit New Zealand yesterday.

Onboard medical staff treated the injured yesterday and in a statement released by the company today, three passengers have remained under medical supervision.

The vessel was carrying 1732 passengers and 671 crew and arrived in Auckland today after an eight day cruise in the South Pacific.

One of the first passengers to disembark was Jacinda Pollard who said she saw waves level with her window on deck 5.

Some people had broken bones and one person lost a finger.

Damage to the ship was "superficial" but had delayed the next cruise, with 1650 passengers, which was scheduled to leave yesterday.
