Hi,
According to French Polynesian press, the French company SNCM, which mainly operates between continental France and Corsica, is about to sell its last HSV, the "NGV Liamone".
She will be sent to French Poynesia were she will operate a route between Tahiti and the Leeward Islands. She will be renamed "King Tomaota".
I don't know if SNCM will buy or rent another ship to replace her.
-
Hi,
At the moment, we don't still know the ship which will replace the "NGV Liamone" it will be necessary to wait for the opening of the bookings on Nice to know the ship. But can be that the ship will be a current "RORO" of the SNCM.
-
I wonder if a RoRo is a good idea for Nice: this kind of ships are slow and accept few passengers (especially compared to Corsica Ferries' "Mega Expresses").
Furthermore, the four RoRos are already scheduled on the Marseilles - Corsica routes. It might be a good idea SNCM to lease (or even buy) a ship that would be suitable for the Nice - Corsica crossing if the company wants to keep on operating on this route.
-
The priority of the SNCM is going to be to buy or to make build fast RORO (1500 passengers roughly) finally we shall be more in a few days on this ship!!!
-
Hello,
I am not sure the port of Nice is suitable to load many trucks and lorries into a RORO : all streets leading to the port (located downtown) are very narrow and often overcrowded.
Regards.

Hi, The NGV LIAMONE will be can be replaced by another smaller NGV and which consumes less of running.
-
Yes a "NGV4" is scheduled for next summer.
I guess the company will lease this ferry.
-
Yes it remains to be seen what will be this NGV???

Well, somebody related to the company told me that is could be a "catamaran", but I'm not sure about whatit means.
-
The characteristics of the new " NGV4 " will be 112 metres 15.7 wide and he can transport 1000 passengers and 210 cars. The ship would be the "HSC Aeolos Kenteris I" ( NEL LINES )
-
Hum,
This boat is very similar to the Liamone, it's just a little smaller. I wonder what's the point of selling the Liamone to lease a very similar ship.
-
The new ship will doubtless be the "HSC GOTLANDIA" of Destination Gotland

hi everybody,
I give you some news:
- NGV Liamone was sold to Bill Ravel, owner of "Raromatai ferries", and will leave Marseille in january (10 may be). She will be in Tahiti (French polynesia) near february (15). You can read, in french, this article: http://www.lesnouvelles.pf/fenua/societe/4958-le-king-tamatoa-arrive-le-15-fevrier.html
Her new name will be "King Tamatoa".
- SNCM will buy (leasing) Aeolos Kenteris I. No new name known for the moment.
But I will give you an important information; this summer, no passenger ship, highspeed ship included, will be enter in Nice port. A citizen comittee have obtained this forbid to avoid pollution. So, the use of the NGV4 was very uncertain...
-
For information, SNCM sell Liamone because she has a very high consumption: 16 metric tons of DO per hour at 35 kts, more than 25t/h at 49kts (her record: Toulon/Ajaccio average=49.9kts). She has 2 MTU high speed engines and 2 gas turbine !
Aeolos Kenteris I has 4 Man engines, her consumption was only 5.5 t/h.

Are you sure that all passenger ships will be forbidden in Nice? I live there and I've read that ship won't be allowed to enter during the night (after midnight I think).
Banning ferries from the port of Nice would be a nonsense, even if a local committee wishes it.
