Maritime Research and History / Tug "Barkis"

Hi,
I'm attempting to gather some information about a former tug, especially her Launch date if anyone is able to assist please.
She was built as the "Elmgarth" I believe and worked for Rea Towing based on the River Mersey. She was later transferred to the Port of Lowestoft and carried the name "Barkis".
In August 1976 she capsized in the North Sea off Lowestoft with the loss of one life.

I've attached a photo of her at work assisting a Side Trawler during her later days at Lowestoft.

If anyone is able to share some information about her launch and earlier life it would be greatly appreciated.

Trip reports / Leith Docks

Evening all,
I'll be heading up to Scotland over the next few days and have seen during my visit HMS Somerset will be visiting Leith Docks.
Can anyone advise when Naval ships visit where do they usually moor? Would I be right in saying they use the Cruise Terminal? Also can anyone recommend a good place to get photos from please.

Trip reports / Aberdeen Harbour Access

Evening all, I'm in the process of planning a trip to Scotland and I'm hoping to visit Aberdeen in the process to photograph any vessel's that are moored and in the harbour at the time.
Can anyone please advise or suggest any location or if it's possible to gain access to the waterside?

Afternoon all, heard today that HMS Illustrious is due to leave Portsmouth in early November bound for the Turkish breakers.
Can anyone please confirm a specific date for the sailing?

Help and Advice / Photography Advice for Tilbury and Hull

Evening all,

In the very near future I shall be sailing on a vessel and taking in Tilbury and Hull in the process.

I'm in 2 minds which camera to take. Does anyone know if an 18-55mm lens will be sufficient or would a larger lens be required?

Can anyone please advise what is happening with the Putford Artemis please?
She sailed from Lowestoft on the 7th April bound for Grenna.
Have heard rumors she is bound for the cutters torch.

Any info great fully recieved.

That's correct, quite apt to photograph such a move from the site of a former shipyard.

Hi Dan, thanks for that. Just been advised there are 2 sailings down for tomorrow. Reported plan is 2 ships to leave in the morning and 3 inn the evening.

Hi Dan,

Currently moored in the river we have:
L4001 Ardennes - Ex British Army Landing Craft
L4003 Arakan - Ex British Army Landing Craft
KYE Torrent - Research / Survey Vessel
Torch - Ex Royal Navy Torpedo Recovery Vessel
Lorna - Research / Survey Vessel.

From what I've heard through the grape vine KYE Torrent, Torch and Lorna are set to be towed away this month and scrapped. Info on the 2 landing craft is uncertain. Some say they're going also, others say they're not sea worthy.

Afternoon all, I hear from other sources that the ships currently moored in Lowestoft, UK are set to be towed away during March and to potentially be scrapped. Does anyone out there know any more about this move?

Evening Ladies and Gents, can someone please aid me in names the 3 vessels in this photograph taken at Portsmouth on 7th October 2014. All three ships are decommissioned were moored in one of the berths. HMS Liverpool and HMS Manchester were elsewhere in the dockyard so that's them out of the question.
All help gratefully received.
