Shipping News and information / Re: Fred Olsen Cruises disposals
« on: August 14, 2020, 09:40:04 AM »
the fact of the matter - is simple - take a motor car - you buy it - drive it - and eventually sell it - for a newer and or better model - ships are the same - the nostalgic ocean liners of yesterday would be totally out of place or standards in today's cruise market - yes their are exceptions - ie marco polo which i believe is well past 60 in age - we change and adapt our lifestyle to today's market - and the fact that the modern cruise ships attract more passengers because the cruise ships of today are the destination unlike classic passenger ships and ocean liners - where they were traveled on to reach a destination - sad as it is to see the oldies reaching their end - fyi - i am more traditional

Shipping News and information / Re: msc melody qing

"Qing" beached Alang 11/5/2019. She hadn't been laid up as such. She was to be converted to a floating hotel, but on 29/6/2016 she partially sank at the dock in Mormugao where conversion was taking place. After months and months of legal wrangling she was eventually refloated and sold at auction for demolition.

thank you for the feed back - maybe my terminology is not always good - but at least i was on the right track - regards

Shipping News and information / Re: MSC INES aground in Durban
« on: October 12, 2017, 03:43:08 PM »
I was 3-4 times in the Durban port in 2000-01, with wind and swell it is really not easy to get into that port. The anchorage is not good holding ground, so one must leave the anchorage when the weather get rough. I wonder somewhat that a big ship like that still made the attempt in that eather condition to enter the port !!!!

the ship in fact was not entering port she broke from her moorings berth 108 - the storms in and around durban were the worst in years - there were five ships in port that broke from their moorings - and i was in direct contact with a tug boat crew member through out the time

Shipping News and information / Ships and Pictures - What Not to Do
« on: February 16, 2017, 12:18:14 PM »
I received an email - requesting that certain Standards are not being complied with - when posting Pictures against a topic under discussion - I have always found a person relates better to a subject when you have a source of reference ie picture - this I have been told is okay but has to conform to size..???? mine was to big!!! and I also was posting pictures on subjects that were old ...!? Question - why still have a subject on record if you cannot reply or give an opinion against it? what has the size of the picture posted got to do with it - if this site accepts the picture?! and as is my habit - I frame all my pictures - and this seems to be a problem....Administrators I believe it is fair to also voice our points as you feel free to voice yours.... respects to all and this is a great Ship Spotting Forum Bdp

it seems that posting pictures is a point of contention - I have been requested to comply with certain standards and NOT TO frame my replies - hence will now remove all my content ...mmm :'(
