Thank you for your time and effort in keeping this website the great place it is. We were always able to have open and honest conversations between admins with respect for everyone's point of view. I always found a listening ear with you for guidance or second opionions. I wish you all the best for the future and many happy moments with your grandchildren. Family is the most important thing there is and I hope you can enjoy every moment.

Kind regards
Cedric

Another issue for me today is sending messages. When I move a picture between categories I always inform the uploader. The page keeps on loading but the message did go through. I

Help and Advice / Mirrorless camera experiences?
« on: June 21, 2022, 08:29:24 PM »
Hello all,

During a recent trip to Sweden my Nikon D3300 sadly died and repairing it no longer makes economic sense. As a result I'm now tasked with finding a replacement for it and I'm finding that a little difficult. Second hand models I've come across often seen even older models than my current D3300 which I'm a little hesitant about. My current lenses are the 18-55 it came with, a 35mm and a Tamron 18-200mm for shipspotting.

Apparently if you're buying new, mirrorless camera's are the way forward and as I have few Nikon lenses, I'm a bit of a free agent in terms of brands / systems / lens mounts. An adapter is available to use older lenses on a new mirrorless Nikon body but costs around

Yesterday I tried to upload a picture of an inland ship (so no IMO number available). Despite checking the box

Hello,

I like the look of the new website but there are a few issues I have noticed:
  • I was now able to login through the forum pages but it does not work from the homepage or photo pages. The same issue occurred on my iPad yesterday.
  • I am also unable to go to the next page of a category, I can only see the first page of images.
  • If I want to edit a picture as admin, I cannot save the edit and I cannot go back to the photo page from the edit page.

As side info for the dev team if this is helpful, I'm using Safari on macOS and iOS and both systems are running the latest software versions. My Mac is an M1 version.

Thank you to the dev team for their continued efforts!

Kind regards
Cedric

Some of those early dates may not be reliable.  I understand that some data was corrupted many years ago when there was a big site crash.

Indeed David, many old pictures are on the site now with date added July 10 2006 even though they were actually uploaded before that. If I recall correctly this was due to the backups that were restored after the crash around that time.

Trip reports / Re: Stopped from taking photos in Antwerp
« on: October 11, 2020, 12:28:33 PM »
There is said to be a large influx of drugs into Belgium (and perhaps via there the rest of Europe) from the port of Antwerp.

If you take a normal boat trip and go to publicly accessible areas, you should be fine. However if you are in a port zone, police or harbour security may stop you or question what you are doong.

As a Belgian member I can clarify that there are a lot of problems with drugs in and around the harbour. Police are having a big crackdown so that might be part of the issue. There was a big media frenzy this summer after multiple grenades were exploded in front of the holes of key port workers such as planners for container companies.

I live near the coast (quite some distance from Antwerp) and have never been shipspotting there myself. I have never been stopped taking pictures in Oostende or Zeebrugge but then again I always shoot from public areas and never go in

Help and Advice / Re: Digital zoom vs optical zoom

Other options are Panasonic TZ 100 and TZ 200 and Sony RX100 mark VI and mark VII, those are smaller and have generally less quality lenses compared to the ones mentioned above, though still the same, relatively large, sensor.

I have a 10 year old Lumix TZ10, quality in low light is a little lower due to the smaller sensor size but generally it is an excellent and very portable package.  Most of my pictures on here are taken with that camera. It cost me

Already sold according to P&O themselves. I read rumours in various Facebook groups about a sale to a Greek operator.
