The site standard currently reads:
Resolution (image size) must be between 1024 x 768 pixels and 4000 x 4000 pixels.
File size maximum is 4000 KB
Are these limits acceptable?
Should the minimum image size be changed to allow equally for vertical format images?
Please add your views on this topic below, before 5 October 2015.

The size limits are OK. There is nothing that can not be shown within 4000 pixels vertically.
-
This standard is OK
-
fine with me as they are now
-
And also fine with me.
-
I think this sizing is more than adequate.

Just to explain my question in the opening message.
At present, a landscape image of 1024 x 768 pixels will be accepted, but a portrait format image of the same size will be rejected. Perhaps the minimum should be set at 768 x 768 (or some other figure). Views?
-
I'd say landscape or portrait as long as one of the sides is not less than 1024p & there are no extensive cropping.
-
The side limits are o.k., although it would be nice, if images would be resized automatically like it is on for example vesseltracker.com.
-
Perhaps we should consider adding an aspect ratio limitation as many sites have, such as 2:1 or less?
Kind Regards,
Kyle

The 90s called - they want their 0.5 Mpix image files back ;)
As for aspect ratios, I don't see any point in permitting others than 4:3/3:4 and 3:2/2:3. That's what the cameras produce.
-
Why can't we just have the image/file size range available to either orientation? Just seems to me to be a lot simpler and less confusing, especialy for older members who are not as it savy a nd are not have a clear understanding of pixels, kb's, mb's etc

Yes, that should certainly be considered (is also mentioned under the topic "enhancement)

For me the minimum size 768 x 768 pixels is OK !!
PROPOSAL
The amended text for resolution (image size) to fully read (below are provided 2 versions of the wording):
Version 1
Resolution (image size) for landscape format must be minimum 1024 x 768 pixels and not more than 4000 x 4000 pixels
Resolution (image size) for portrait format must be between 768 x 768 pixels and 4000 x 4000 pixels
File size maximum is 4000 KB
or (even better wording and more simple),
Version 2
Resolution (image size) must be between 768 x 768 pixels and 4000 x 4000 pixels
File size maximum is 4000 KB

That would be a ridiculously small image then! The standard frame of every ship photo page here has a horizontal size 800p, then you click on "Full Screen" & you get a disappointment that the actual photo is even less than what you initially saw.
I still say, that as long as the bigger side of the original photo is not less than 1024p it should be Ok. Of course other standards are applied too, cause it might be small & not sharp pic at the same time.

I don't know about you, but I have a 20 MPix camera on my phone. So, how about setting the minimum image size to at least one megapixel...
