Apparently, authorities in Norway are considering building a tunnel for ships:

Peter, I think if you look at the dimensions that the BBC quote it will be the first tunnel of that size to accommodate 16,000 tonne ships ?

Likely the same as long train tunnels and snow sheds Ventilator shafts and fans.

The Norwegian tunnel is somewhat larger than the Weilburger tunnel - that's really just a Freycinet gauge barge size tunnel - a bit wider and a bit shallower . . . .
I'd love to go through the Stad tunnel . . if they build it!
