Probably a silly question to which I probably know the answer being as there are only photos of parts of her on barges on the site :)
Is HMS QUEEN ELIZABETH being built under cover or is there any possibility to catch site of her and from where?
I'm working in Edinburgh for a few days and was wondering if it was worth a visit to Rosyth

Last time i was over at Rosyth she was out in the open, no covers and certainly not inside.
If your coming from Edinburgh, pull off just over the bridge, and go through Rosyth and pass the naval base. Not far from there you can turn left and it takes you down to the back gate of the yard and there she is

Thanks for the info phantom53, I'll try that.

Great, and i'll bet she is a bit more advanced than the last time i saw her.
Glad you got there

You can take a walk from North Queensferry onto the Forth Bridge and probably get some sort of shot with a long lens. She being put together in dry dock at Rosyth. HM The Queen will be conducting a ceremony for her in July 2014.

Daily Telegraph video of her being floated out

Thanks Ian, noticed that on AIS. Now waiting for low water.

Every towage company' dream: an 11-tug job.
Not sure if I approve of "Hmsqnlz" as AIS name, though.

Wonderful public relations exercise

Bob, She is just West of the Isle of Wight as I write this and can be tracked on AIS.

I would not get too excited, when she was originally due on Friday the council had deemed the Round Tower closed to all but press and cars not allowed anywhere on Southsea Seafront. Not sure what is happening as she is arriving two days earlier than originally planned.

It was definitely not a day to get excited over. Yes, being a mug, I went, arriving at Clarence Pier around 05:30, intending to make the left turn along the sea front. Park and walk was OK until the time came to leave: 50 minutes from the car park at the Clarence Pier end of the prom to joining the M27!
Here's a question for someone; Why is it being referred to as HMS Queen Elizabeth? Surely, it becomes HMS when it is commissioned? It was flying a blue ensign (government service) indicating the contractors are still very much in charge. When the previous carriers were decommissioned, the HMS was removed from the names pretty quickly.
By the way Allan, I don't know if you made it down there today but when I saw the numbers of yachts and small boats, I had visions of you tearing your hair out, shouting epithets etc!
-
I got up at daft o'clock and parked in the same car park as Kelvin just after 5am, no problem with leaving after a walk round Old Portsmouth and a stroll along Southsea and a cuppa.
I also wondered why they kept referring to her as HMS?
Photos to follow

No Kelvin, I did not make it. I think I am suffering photo overload as just got back from cruise and took far more interesting stuff in Kronstadt, which I am still trying to sort out !!
