Hi all,
opening the Shipspotting.com homepage a small window pops up. The text in the window says ,in very bad German,
"http://shipspotting.com bittet eine Erlaubnis Benachrichtiggunggen anzuzeigen
(Shipspotting.com ask for permission to show messages)
There are two buttons, "block" and "allow". I'm not inclined to click any of them.
This happens both on Windows 10 using Firefox and on macOS Mojave using Firefox.
Is this supposed to be a new feature or is it malware?
Cheers,
Jens
PS:
I've logged in via the log-in on the Forum page. There this pop-up window doesn't appear.

I had this during the week with two or three different sites, but not in last couple of days.

Hi,
I had this window yesterday (sixth of April) maybe 3 times, blocked it. It reappears today when I accessed the site. Shipspotting is the only site (for the moment) when I get this

Its not appearing now when I open the site up or on any of the pages I tried :)

Seems to be in the head code of the page, as per attachment. Line 17, sendpulse.com.

Hi,
It is still there for the third day in a row.

I am at work now and the message pops up. Using Chrome.

Hi,
It is still there. I used sendpulse.com procedure to block these messages on Google Chrome, not to avail. It is really annoying.

Hi, any update on this message? Is it a real shipspotting.com message?

Hi,
I still get it, block it, then I receive the notification, with the added irony that is comes from a full secure site (https) while Shipspotting is still not rated as such.
-
Hi Bob,
I doubt it has anything to do with the site. I blocked it a few times, now it does not appear.

Hi,
I just tried Microsoft Edge (I was using Chrome) and no notification. I hope it will stay like that.

Not getting it personally any more, but still no reply from Henrik, so I'll remind him.
-
Cleared cache today and message reappeared - also appeared on phone (which it hadn't until now)
-
Thanks guys, still reluctant to click any button, might say "block" but does it?

David, the message you linked to appears (at least on my system) opening another site of Shipspotting.com after blocking the first message on the initial website.
I blocked this on both Windows 10 and macOS Mojave (in both cases using Firefox). It did not reappear on Windows 10, but it does on macOS Mojave.

Hi,I am receiving same message as Robert J. Smith posted before," block or allow".

Hi,
I still got the message today on Chrome and tried using adblock to get rid of it. I answered some questions and closed Chrome. I opened it after a while and when I opened Shipspotting's home page the windows showed up briefly then closed without my interaction. The situation was repeated at almost every change of pages on the site so I decided to continue my visit on Edge, another navigator.
I checked in Chrome's options and shipspotting.sendpulse was on the blocked list.
However, still no problem with Microsoft Edge, so far at least.

Yes, but only at work using Chrome. Mozilla at home is fine.

I am using Mozilla and as of today still receiving this message.
-
As it happens, I refreshed Firefox today and subsequently received the popup again. Looking at its detail, it is a function of google-analytics (the system that collects data about us, linked to google-ads). See attached and one I also received in the more common form from another site.
Reading elsewhere, the preferences are apparently stored as a cookie and/or "tracking snippet" but the popup request renews if you clear your cookies.
I expect that Henrik knows all about this - but he has not replied to me yet.

Any update yet?

Hi,
After a serious attack stopped by my antivirus, I stopped using Microsoft Edge and returned to Google Chrome. I still get the message each time I change page on Shipspotting but Adblock close it quite rapidly. Shipspotting is the only site where I have this.
