What is the considered for deletion (CFD) process?

In case Admins encounter photos that have been uploaded and do not meet the site standards (for a variety of reasons), the photo will be considered for deletion (CFD), whereby the admin will indicate the primary reason for potential deletion. Once a photo has entered the category: "Considered for deletion", it will only be visible for Admins and the photographer concerned.

When this is done, the photographer will automatically receive a private message regarding the change in status of his uploaded photo. The photographer will have the opportunity to react to the suggestion made by the admin. If he agrees, he can delete the shot himself, if not a discussion can start how to deal with the shot. As the discussion will be out of sight from the other users, it can take place in a quiet and friendly atmosphere, without external interference.

Depending on the reason for the possible deletion, the Admins can propose various solutions to prevent this, all to be discussed with the photographer and only applied with his permission.

Referring to the above: re: how much time will be given to re-upload a photograph marked in the CFD?

A photograph I posted on the evening (Vancouver, Canada) marked CFD because a slight obstruction is already deleted next morning and I finally receive an e-mail notification of the deletion later that day.

Why was I not given a chance to re-upload?

Shipping News and information / Re: MILITARY IMO NUMBERS
« on: August 16, 2022, 04:32:12 PM »
at least some military/navy vessels do have IMO numbers:

here is one example:

How are IMO numbers generated?

How can a vessel built in 1973 have an IMO of 4500163?

@ Bob Scott: It's not all that black and white:

Here's again one of my examples:

http://www.shipspotting.com/gallery/photo.php?lid=3356556

After having done all the research re: details of the vessel's length, etc.
and having properly posted these with my photograph, it's so frustrating to
see under the Technical Data these huge wrong data posted.

Whereas, in my honest opinion, the rules re: photo quality (especially in cases
of rare or "first on this site" vessels) could be more flexible, the quality
of the technical data is totally ignored.

Really, what is the use of knowingly reporting/posting the wrong data?
Sadly this makes Shipspotting.com look amateurish to say the least.....

Having seven photographs deleted in one swoop/one message is discouraging.

They included very unusual barges returning from the Red Dog mining operation
in northern Alaska, Beaufort Sea. I am the only photographer having taken these.

I went out of my way in terrible stormy weather to take these and though they
are clearly in focus with their names visible. they were considered "blurry."
Severe weather conditions can result in somewhat "blurry" photos, but that is all
part of the conditions they were taken in.

Now whereas literally hundreds of boring photos of the same cruise ship are accepted,
photos of a few interesting and very unusual barges are deleted because they do not
meet standards that are set too strict.

At the other hand, Shipspotting does not care at all about the quality of the technical
data of the vessels they do accept. Technical Data is full of very annoying mistakes and
wrong data:

here is one example: http://www.shipspotting.com/gallery/photo.php?lid=3356556

Also, the vessel identification in that section is full of typos and incorrect use of
lower and upper cases.

Having contributed close to 11,000 photos on Shipspotting, I have become very discouraged.

To Allan RO:

Afraid I have to agree with Bob, you might as well add a category for rowing boats and canoes.

There is no comparison between life boats and your rowing boats and canoes, unless you prefer to jump in a canoe in a storm when your vessel is going down somewhere mid-ocean....

Site related news, functions and modules / fog photography - standards?
« on: October 01, 2021, 02:25:23 PM »

I disagree that this photo had ro be deleted as hazy/out of focus:

look at how sharp the foreground is;

though maybe somewhat shrouded in morning fog, vessel can certainly be recognized.

no, any suggestions how to do this?

Why am I suddenly having a problem with "always stay logged in?"

Every time I now open Shipspotting I have to do the user name, password
and "always stay logged in" procedure.

Between having logged in with my user name and password and clicked
"always stay logged in" on the Home page, even switching to Forum right
after, I have to go through the whole process of logging in again.

Very annoying indeed!

Another site where I post some of my photographs requires a confirmation
of copyright ownership; otherwise the photos won't be posted.

In our case this could easily be done as well:

to the Agreement box at the bottom, just add three words"

change "I accept the terms....." to "I OWN THE COPYRIGHT and accept the terms.....".

Of course everybody automatically clicks OKay on this box, and nobody really cares,
but in this way at least all legal bases are covered.....
